P: Convert to Video Timeline option missing - Apple M1 devices

I am not able to select anything but "Create Frame Animation" in the Timeline. I am trying to create a Video Timeline, but not using Frame animation. This option isn't in the bottom left or top right of the Timeline menu.

I have tried resetting my preferences, uninstalling and re-installing, creating a new document, and converting all layers to smart objects, and none of those have worked. I have a macbook pro with macOS Big Sur version 11.2.3 with an Apple M1 chip.

Thank you for the help!

Hi there,

I am experiencing a problem with my photoshop program. I have the latest version of photoshop and for some reason, I am unable to upload an mp4 file. It will pop up on the screen with a message saying that the file is unreadable. I have spoken to Digital Design lecturers and even they do not know what the problem is.

and another strange thing is that I cannot seem to find my video layers under the layers panel. Normally this option will be just under the smart object. I also do not know if my M1 chip might be the problem or not.

Please can somebody help. Thank you.

I can't seem to open video files in Photoshop 22.4.3 on a 2020 M1 Macbook Pro running BigSur 11.5.1 (20G80). I've tried .MOV, .M4V, .MP4, etc...all the common formats that I've opened before. Any pointers?

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop while trying to open video files. This is a known compatibility issue with Photoshop on the M1 Macs. You can try running Photoshop in Rosetta emulation for now while our product team works on a fix. To run Photoshop using Rosetta, please check: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211861

For more info, you can check: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-for-apple-silicon.html#native-known-issues

I hadn't this problem few days ago. I used to open mp4 video and save it into gif format, but now I don't even have any chance to open videofile.

Can somebody help me, because i think I just turned some option off or my laptop loose some codecs((

My laptop is MacBook Pro M1 2020, MacOs BigSur 11.3.1

My Photoshop version is 22.4.3.

Hi there,

That doesn't sound good. Have you tried resetting the preferences of Photoshop and see if that helps?

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Note: Make sure that you back up all your custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html

That would indicate that you're on an M1-based Mac, where full video functions currently aren't available. if it's something else you will have to provide more info.

When is the M1 version of photoshop going to be able to import video frames to layers?

Hi,

We're sorry that your not able to import video frames to layers while running Photoshop natively on the M1 Mac. We currently do not have an official timeline on when this would be available. For now, you can try running Photoshop under the Rosetta 2 as a workaround. For more details, please check: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211861
