P: F1 function key disabled for Actions

Photoshop CS6 beta - Some years ago I made a bunch of actions to speed up my production workflow. They're so good, now I can't live without'em. I started in CS1 maybe, where I was able to use F1 key for actions. Altough in newer versions of Photoshop we cannot use F1, my old actions loaded into even CS5.5 still worked, overwriting the F1/Help command. Which i really don't need, 'cause i'm a pro 😉

In CS6 beta this doesn't work anymore. I cannot use F1 for actions.

However I can override F1 in preferences / keyboard shortcuts.

So what's the point of disabling F1 for actions, and allowing for keyboard shortcuts.

Please let me use any F key for action panel shortcuts!

This is also a bit confusing for me when I try to remapping this photoshop software for creating my logo. I just needed two actions under whole thing.

I've actually used "sharpkeys" keyboard remapping software, then remapped f12 to f1. So my actions set under f12 are now run by hitting f1. It's ridiculous, but I just needed two actions under f1.
But the whole thing is kinda stupid...

Unfortunately it's still the same. Can't assign F1 to actions, though I can assign to tool shortcuts.

I use all the 12 F keys, with shift, ctrl, shift+ctrl to control my custom 48 actions. After this change I changed the layout of my actions to use F1 for commands I can define as tool shortcuts.

...

Another workaround would be working on a mac 😉

Any news about this issue? Any ideas how to force photoshop to work with f1? couldn't you just bring the bug back? it's just ridiculous that in pro software you need help...

No, that is completely unrelated to this Windows issue. Please see the existing topics about F5 problems in Photoshop CC.

I now have a similar issue with F5 on Mac.

I use an action that is assigned to F5, but with this recent update that assignment seems to get ignored, and PS performs something like "Delete Selected Layer" instead of my assigned action. I tried to check the default keyboard mapping but there is no way to search for use of F5. I also tried unassigning and reassigning the key to the action so as to write fresh preferences, but it had no effect.

(I'm on fully updated Mac OS X with fully updated Adobe CC.)

It is not supposed to be available for keyboard shortcuts. We'll have to double check the keyboard shortcut code.

I'm on windows. I want to use F1 for actions but it's unlisted as an option. It was available in earlier versions, can you add it back? I hope you can because it's an available option for keyboard shortcuts. Check the screenshots! Thanks!

"It's "as designed" per Microsoft intent."

I don't know if it's good telling you about this, but I can set F1 in preferences to be a keyboard shortcut. So in the same application the engineers disable F1 for the action panel, but allowing F1 in the keyboard shortcuts.

- I'm a pro user
- photoshop is a professional tool
- ergo I don't need shortcut for Help

- I want to use F1 for other things, that's my choice. I can find Help in the Help menu anyway.

At start F1 could be shortcut for help "as designed by Microsoft", but I don't unerstand why can't I override it in a professional application/environment.

Hi Zoltan,

It's "as designed" per Microsoft intent. From the engineer:

"The F1 key is not assignable to actions on Windows. It's not in the UI pop-up on Windows. It was a bug that it worked in CS5 that has now been fixed.

F1 means "help" on Windows; that's why it's never been in the assignable fkeys."
