P: Flickering problem in photoshop workspace

Hello, first of all sorry for my bad english.

I have a problem with flickering while using PS - i've searched all topics, and i saw that this problem exist from year 2019, and still no clue whats going on...

I have a new laptop - Acer Nitro 5 laptop with dual cards Intel UHD and Nvidia RTX 3050. All drivers are updated, and on RTX I have STUDIO Drivers, not Game Ready.

- I don't want to disable GPU on PS, because I'm using a lot of options for it.

- I can't disable g-sync (i saw this tip in other topics) because i don't have this option

- I have Nvidia Studio Drivers (on Game-Ready the problem is the same)

- I have this problem ONLY on Adobe app

Not my video, but it looks like this VID 20190809 233324 - YouTube - when you use mouse, tablet for drawing with brush, when you do anything on workspace all image changing brightness/contrast when you click/use brush. This is really really REALLY annoying.

I saw posts with telling others that dual-card laptops may have problems. But it is not a solution - the market with these laptops is huge, so ther must be a solution...

Is there really nothing you can do about it?!

PLEASE... help. I do not want this topic to be like the others - years later - without solving the problem. For me for OTHER people who struggle with it.

Best regards S.

I've had the same issue with an RTX 3060 and unbearable monitor flickering when photoshop in fullscreen. It disappeared in window-mode. Lightroom or most other tools in fullscreen had no such issues, except for occasional flickers when switching to my browser window. Trying the various settings described here, didn't help, except for using an old monitor.

That gave me a hint to a setting that solved the issue on my system: NVIDIA Control Panel -> Display / Adjust desktop color settings -> Content reported to the display . Changed it from "Auto-Select" to "Desktop programs".

LG 😊

I have a bad news - I didn't fix this. After months of fighting with drivers, BIOS, reinstalling things etc. and fight with ACER - laptop was two times on the guarantee (they changed two times my LCD screen, and problem exists). I had problem with ADOBE products, and after some time even with Blender and browsers. After that I've go to the store who sells me the laptop, and use the warranty (after second time, they decided that the laptop was UNREPAIRABLE and they refunded me money). I bought a new laptop - Lenovo Legion - and now everything is fine. Photoshop working g

Of course I want to thanks all the ADOBE employees for your patience and attempts to help me ❤️

I do not recommend ACER products - also their service is very unprofessional (ACER Asplex). They don't know how to fix their own equipment and what is wrong with him. Crazy.

Flickering Screen

Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm using Photoshop 2023 on a new machine running Windows 10. (I bought a subscription to CreativeCloud)

In Photoshop, when I move the mouse over the left toolbar without clicking on it, the screen flickers a few times. (Partly WITHOUT the use of Photoshop, but then only once) If I do NOT use Photoshop in full-screen mode, the flickering disappears.

I have already tried the following (unfortunately all without success):

  • Uninstall and reinstall Photoshop 2023
  • Reinstall your video card driver
  • use a different mouse on the computer

Do you have any idea how I can fix the problem?

Best regards.

Freundliche Grüße.

Hi Freundliche,

You posted to the Photoshop Developers forum, and your question is not a developer question — most posts here are misplaced. I've moved your post to the Photoshop forum for you and merged it with the Bug Report for the flickering screen issue. Several people have solved it, so please read the thread and let us know if it helps. If not, please post again to this thread when the Photoshop team will see it.

I don't think this will help, and i don't know if i can do an upgrade like this on my laptop. Also, i had windows 10 with the same issue.

I will try to mail to ACER, maybe their OEM Drivers are bad... I don't know 😞

@Bart0101 , sorry we are still stuck on this. One thing to try could be to update your Windows to the latest version, Win 11 22H2 (your System info shows 2200, which is 21H2) and give that a go; that is perhaps the only difference between your system and mine (I think our RTX GPUs are close enough to behave similarly).

I'm happy that I'm "so smart" 😛  to force to use Intel GPU, not my RTX from windows "graphic settings" for PS and sniffer.exe (for temporary use the Photoshop without an anger). But not everyone can do it.

Also the tip for others to disable the GPU from the app is not a very good option at all for the users. Very great stuff and full potential from PS is with GPU acceleration on.

Mark.Dahm thank you for trying to help me (I hope you will get a raise for your kindness and efforts!!! 😉 I hope we'll find a solution) - and I'm happy that you understand my bad English (I'm from Poland). Hope you have a great vacation! 🙂
