P: Free Transform Maintain Aspect Ratio broken

When the Maintain Aspect Ratio box is unchecked, Free Transform should be non-proportional.

However, in version 20 (Oct 2018 release) the aspect ratio remains locked whether or not the Maintain Aspect Ratio box is clicked. Only using the shift key (new behaviour) seems to work.

Reported in Adobe Photoshop forums by Win 10 users.

Jeez I just came back from a long Photoshop hiatus and wondered what the matter was with Free Transform. Revert back to the old behavior that makes sense, for god's sake. The current behavior is INCORRECT, was signaled 10 months ago, and it's still broken???

When you alt-click the Menu Item »Go« in the Funder is there an item named »Library«?

I was trying to comment to Hannah about her instructions on how to use text edit to revert the update... her path for MacOS doesn't correspond with my system. When I follow the path there is no Photoshop Settings folder in that area. And if there is, that is not what it is called.

Who knows if it will be fixed. It's unclear if the PS team even understands that shift-to-constrain is learnt right after pointing, clicking and dragging - so if you change it, you better be very thorough. This implementation smacks of design by committee and shows a worrying a lack of clear leadership regarding something so fundamental.

The temporary fix is to create a text file which reverses the change, see here for instructions: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/constrained-resize-ps-cc-20

The fix takes 2 seconds but it won't fix the bottomless pit left in your stomach sorry.

Guys, is it going to be fixed? I understand it might be more difficult from what we think down here. un-checking the link should work how it should work; unlinking aspect ration. No more, neither less. This issue is there for 6 months. Half a year.  And you are charging every month in full amount for the subscription. How long we should wait here? How long we should wait for one of fundamental feature (locked aspect ratio when ticked and unlocked aspect ratio when un-ticked) to work properly? Guys, it is not funny. Why I have to keep pressed Shift in order to do something, what should work in the other way? This is not right. This how you treat your loyal clients? Nice one!!!

While using the transform tool, and content aware scale, the aspect ratio toggle is giving me issues. Whether I click the button or not, it will scale it with locked aspect ratio. I have found that using the shift key is currently the only way to scale items in one direction. I went through tech support and am still having the issue. As I can use shift to correct this, it is no longer a major issue for me, just a small annoyance. I wanted to see if others had this issue since the latest CC update running on macOS Mojave version 10.14.1.

Here is my story, I've shared it before. First, I'm glad I found this thread, I too have had several issues with V20 and I had jumped over 19, by my mistake. I use PS a lot and was looking forward to V20 and exploring it. V20 is broken as far as I am concerned. It crashed on me, copy and paste works half the time, the filter gallery is 'gone' and when using the dropdown for selecting a brush, it takes over 20 seconds for the brushes to show up and another five seconds for a brush to activate once selected. I bet there is more but didn't find it.  I spent a lot of time exploring the net and following advise from techs. I finally got a hold of 'help' in India and had V19 installed by them. That was two weeks ago (or so) and today, V19 is acting almost a like V20.

To anyone 'going back a version or two make sure that you have any Actions or Brushes etc. that you created backed-up because when going back the Adobe subdirectory (Windows anyway) where that information was gone. If I had not had the brushes backed up on my own, I would have had to start that process over again. I did loose my created Actions, but that is okay, I had way too many.

I'm tired of backing out of the Adobe product, powering down the machine and then starting over after every change I made along the way. And some of these other issues being reported, I wish I had an answer but after reading all the different issues across the Mac and Windows OS, I'm getting the feeling that it isn't just me. I even had my local computer guy check out my machine and it got a clean bill of health. The other applications are working okay too, but I use PS almost all day and all night and now I have to clean the house instead of doing what I want to do!!

I'll keep looking, trying, talking, reading and writing until there is a fix.

Good Luck!

The issue with the link icon for not enabling and re-enabling will be fixed (this topic is marked as "In Progress")
