P: Image resized temporarily when adjusting borders

I recently saw another post about this, unfortunately no progress there so far … 

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Settings > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

I’m currently using Photoshop 2026 and experiencing a highly frustrating issue with floating document windows.

The Problem: When I click and drag the edges of a floating window to resize it, the image inside dynamically scales (zooms in/out) to match the window size.

Expected Behavior: In older versions of Photoshop, resizing a floating window would simply expand or shrink the gray workspace (background), while the image's zoom level remained completely fixed. I want to revert to this old behavior.
 

Since a few Photoshop versions, the image is wobbling like a fluid when I resize the window. Is this behaviour intentional and is there a way to turn this off? It is really annoying.

I'm on Win 11, Ryzen 9950X3D, 96 GB RAM, RTX 5090, I can reproduce this on multiple machines.

I think this is just an unintentional side effect, possibly some interaction between the GPU driver and Photoshop graphics code. It seems to be Windows specific. I see it too, and it’s been reported many times.

So yes, it’s real and reproducible, the question is whether it’s considered very high priority. Moderators can’t move threads in this new forum software, so either an admin needs to move it, or you can post it as a new bug report, and ask that this thread gets locked/removed.

When resizing windows inside of Photoshop (and other Adobe Applications) I get this weird jitter. On my Mac it runs smoothly. I tried updating my gpu drivers, enabling and disabling GPU acceleration (with and without  OpenCL) and disabling “enable modern user interface”. Also I set Photoshop inside of AMD Adrenaline to use my GPU.

PC specs:
32GB of Ram

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks for reaching out. I am assuming that you're using the crop tool, but the cropped result isn’t being retained and the original image keeps appearing instead, but still I agree with ​@Ged_Traynor it’s quite difficult to fully understand the issue without seeing it in action. It would really help if you could share screenshots or a screen recording that demonstrates the problem.

In the meantime, here are a few things you could check:

• Restarting Photoshop and your computer can sometimes resolve minor glitches.
• Does this issue occur with all images, multiple files, or just a specific one?
• Please also share your operating system and the version of Photoshop you're using.

These details will help us better understand the situation and assist you more effectively.
