P: Introducing scale the UI 200% for high-density displays for Windows

The Photoshop team welcomes your feedback on this experimental feature. Let us know what you think!

Photoshop user interface controls may appear small and hard-to-read on high-density displays. Also, on touch-enabled screens, you may have trouble clicking the smaller controls. 200% scaling solves this issue by doubling the size of the user interface.

Since the user interface elements increase in size by 200%, depending on the size and resolution of your display, you may need to adjust the layout of existing workspaces. For example, on a 1080 px screen at 200%, the Tools panel extends off the bottom of the screen. You can change to double-column orientation in order to fit the panel on the screen.

Note: This feature is only for Windows users. HiDPI on Mac has been available for high-density Retina displays since Photoshop CS6.

Caveats

You may encounter some cosmetic issues while using this feature. While many Photoshop dialogs have been reworked so that they fit on the screen at 1080 px, viewing some dialogs (such as Smart Sharpen) completely may require you to collapse sections.

Disable 200% UI scaling

If you need to return to the default 100% scaling, do the following:

1. Select Preferences > Experimental Features.
2. Deselect Scale UI 200% For High-Density Displays (Windows Only).
3. Restart Photoshop.

Photoshop CS4 is much older than your high resolution display.
200% UI Scaling for high resolution displays was added in Photoshop CC 2014.

I had CS4 on my old PC, then re-installed it (via download and inputting old serial number) to my new laptop, which is running, of course, Windows 8. Everything looks good except for Photoshop -- which is miniscule! The entire UI -- except when drop-down menus -- is so tiny and on the verge of unreadable. Help! My eyes are hurting.

The 200% is to support moving from a 2K monitor to a 4K monitor and have most things be the same size. If you read up through other replies from Chris Cox you'll see that arbitrary zoom sizes are not easy and it'll take Microsoft fixing some OS deficiencies/bugs.

Please add ability to customize scale size. 200% is just way too big!

Other Adobe products are updating their UI scaling support. But not all teams have had time to complete it yet.

As for older products - this is a major new feature (which required a lot of work with Microsoft to make happen), and older versions of software do not get new features.

The feature is fantastic, I purchased Photoshop CC just to get the feature. I also purchased all the other CC programs but quickly realized that preference experimental features is not an option for Bridge. Seems odd the feature would not be added to all the adobe products including CS6 which I still own. I have a 4K monitor and the fonts are just too small on bridge to use the program - I am considering canceling my CC because of this - will you be adding this to the other Adobe products?

I am having a very hard time with this feature. The scale is so large that when I try to change the preference back to the default I can not shut the program down normally because the print is so large I can not go back to the normal workspace. Is there a fix for that?

Yes, I see it now, on the Display & Cursors area.

The 13.1 update for Elements lets you choose the scaling or keep it automatic.
