P: Lost Mouse-Wheel Scrolling for Blending Modes in Layers Panel — Please Restore!

Hello,

For several updates now, I’ve lost a very important feature in the Layers panel regarding the blending mode dropdown menu. I used to be able to scroll through the blending modes using the mouse wheel, which was extremely convenient. Now I’m forced to change modes by opening the Layer FX panel, which is much less fluid (I’m on a PC version).

What’s even more surprising is that the search filter in the Layers panel, just above the blending mode dropdown, still allows scrolling with the mouse wheel.

I hope you can restore this functionality that has always been there. Thank you!

when applying layer blending options to the layer dropdown becomes unactive. Can’t change mode using keyboard arrows.

can you please fix that?

Such a big disappointment and extremely inconvenient. I have used to pick up the best blending mode with a mouse wheel, and that was the feature that I used multiple times a day. And now it is super inconvenient to browse through blend modes.

I also have this issue. It’s very annoying. I miss this having this ability.  Please get it back.

Thanks Ged.  I did wonder if it was anything to do with zooming with the mouse, but I tried disabling all of those settings and it made no difference.

I can still use + and -  with the Shift key held down, and the Move tool selected.  It doesn’t matter where the cursor is.  Google thinks that we should be able to use the mouse wheel, but that does not seem to be the case any more.

Trevor, there was a post in the old forum, where someone reported the same issue, Sameer K from Adobe confirmed that the change was intentional in order to address another issue, can’t find that post any longer though

Yes! Thanks for remembering it. An older, and much more inconvenient bug had to be addressed:

PS versions after 26.11 have this gesture/interaction disabled by design.

Thanks!

I updated Photoshop to the latest version and now I can't change the blending mode on a layer using the mouse scroll wheel, nor do the arrow keys work to switch between blending modes and quickly see the effect. Now I have to click on the drop-down menu each time and choose an option.

@Gabriel.u not sure if you're aware, but you can hold Shift and press + or - to cycle through the blend modes

Hey, @Gabriel.u. Thanks for bringing this up. This changed when a broader fix for an old issue was merged into Photoshop 26.11: https://adobe.ly/3LQBn9R

I've shared this thread for review for now.

Thanks!
