P: No image preview on Open dialog box on Windows

The preview window in the "Open" dialog box on Windows is gone in Photoshop. So if I click on a PSD file (once) to preview it, there isn't one. I have to completely open the file or go digging for it in Bridge. This is a very fundamental feature that needs to return, especially for those of us that have hundreds of files to dig through. PLEASE fix this.

I'm sorry, but Apple and Microsoft set the rules for their platform. We can ask them to reconsider, but we do not get to set their rules.

It is not a bug, it is a change in response to OS requirements.
This is not a problem, not something to be fixed.
Yes, it is an inconvenience to you -- but this is how the OS vendors have decided that things should work, and we have to follow their rules.

This is the tale-as-old-as-time debacle where two companies coordinate together on a product (one needs the other to function) and when a problem arises, rather than address it, it's much easier to pass it off on the other company. Now who's the one actually creating the problem in this scenario? Who the crap knows? That's why it's just a tried and true concept. If both deny any possible way to fix it on their end, it becomes neither's problem and they will point at the other till the bitter end, leaving the customer turning circles. I've dealt with similar circumstances with AT&T and Dish network where they were bundling services and both insisted it was the other's fault that I was double-billed for Dish services from AT&T. Needless to say, it was never resolved and I walked away from both businesses. Chris, I know you guys think that people will get over this and quit talking about it, but I guarantee this is going to keep nagging at this product's heels. I'm sure one day it's going to turn into one of those situations like an Apple product, where they insist there's no problem, but then when they fix it on a later version, they tout it as a new polished feature that everybody has wanted. There are hundreds of companies that have done interviews and claimed that they couldn't put a feature on a piece of hardware or software because it wasn't possible to do so.....then later....magically it's there. I don't know what the discussion was beforehand at the Photoshop meetings where you discussed the product, but if there indeed was a discussion about Microsoft (and even Apple) OS restrictions, the discussion should have ended with a manager saying something like this: "'No' is not an answer guys. We HAVE to find a solution to this."

What the crap??!! I just noticed Adobe marked this post as "Not a problem" (not to mention Chris just backed that up in the comments). How vain you must be Adobe to completely blow off your customers and deem this as not even worth considering. How long does this thread have to get before it becomes "a problem". I've been back and forth with you guys on this and I know you've given us an answer....but it still doesn't fix the problem. And yes, there is one. I was pretty much just disappointed at this point after dealing with you guys, but after seeing the tag you put on this thread, I'm back to mega-ticked. Way to throw gasoline on the fire. Between this and several other problems strewn throughout CS6, I'm starting to wonder if it's really worth the subscription. What the heck did I really get anyways? A bunch of stuff you claim works better under the hood? I've heard that but I really don't see much improvement on my system from CS5. Or did you guys think that by changing the default setting on the toolbar color to dark gray, we would all be blown away? I'm not saying there aren't some decent new features, but nothing that most people couldn't live without by going back to CS5/5.5.

And Chris--if a car maker manufactured a car that didn't have a rearview mirror because the center console showed the camera view behind the car backing up, and even if they meant for it to be like that, that may mean it's not a problem to the manufacturer because they built it that way on purpose, but it IS a problem to the people who have always relied on that rearview mirror and are comfortable with that feature. So it may not be a "problem" to you guys....but it is DEFINITELY a problem to us.

I can only speak for myself.
I am using CS5 more and more and CS6 less, as I create a lot of PSD files while working with Photoshop. If there is nothing to fix and Adobe is complying the the requirements of OS vendors, then let the OS vendors buy future software from Adobe. I know I will no longer advise family and friends to purchase the Photoshop, nor will I be upgrading in the future. I started with CS3 upgraded to CS5 then CS6, it looks as though CS6 will be my last purchase.

It will problaby save me a lot of money, since I also buy a lot of books on Photoshop that I will no longer have a need to buy.

Chris, no one from Microsoft will verify this. It would be helpful if Adobe could provide this forum a name/email address as it is clearly an issue. It's not rocket science to see this, and it's been going on since CS6 launched.

There is nothing to fix. Photoshop is complying with the requirements of the OS vendors. We just did it sooner than some of the other applications.

And what does Bridge have to do with it?

You have no real competition, so we can't really use another program...But we can certainly get it for free. I have done everything I can to avoid pirating this software, even as a student making less than 20k a year, but with this kind of stuff happening again and again with your company I can't. Justify it. Anymore.

Yeah, when you're working with dozens of versions of a single design file (as I often do, as a professional web designer) you NEED NEED NEED NEED NEED a preview. I repeat that word and put in in caps because that is how important it is to my job.

Not minor. Not minor at all. I'll be canceling my student subscription immediately and finding a torrent so I can go back to CS5.
