P: Paste in place shifting error

As mentioned here, Paste in place appears not to be working correctly in Photoshop 21.0.2 (nor in 21.0.1, or 21.0.0).

Here is the issue:

  • A path is created that comes off of the canvas
  • Right click and select Make selection... so that the marching ants run off the canvas
  • Using the shortcut (cmd+shift+v) or selecting Edit > Paste Special > Paste in place, the new copied element shifts up by around 30px and is not pasted in place.

If the path doesn't run off the canvas Paste in place appears to work correctly.

Photoshop 20.0.8 was the last version to work correctly, so I've rolled back.

Best,
Tom

Hello Jeffrey and Pete,

Thanks for getting back to me so fast. In trying to make a video I think I've worked out more specifically what the issue is.

I've popped a screen capture video up on WeTransfer here.

In case you need the written form, essentially when an image is moved off of the viewing canvas then a selection is made, it seems paste in place tries to keep all pixels on the canvas rather than keep them in place and where the image has been moved to.

This only happens with selections that go off of the canvas.

Let me know if I can provide more information.

Best,
Tom

Hi Tom,

As Jeff suggests, I think a screen recording would be most helpful.
In my testing, Paste in Place seems to be pasting with relative pixel coordinates from where the content was copied from. In my case, this was in the lower left quadrant of a PSD. Paste in Place is pasting the pixel data in the same place it was copied from.

The behavior for me, pasting in place with a path-turned-selection that goes outside of the canvas, is the same whether or not the selection goes outside of the canvas boundary. Also the same for both CC 2019 and CC 2020 in my testing.

Which raises the question, what is it you're pasting? Where did the copied pixel data to be pasted originate?

Regards,
PG

Hi Tom,

I'm not quite following your steps. Could you make a screen cap/video of all your steps so I can try and replicate and get fixed?
