P: Pen tilt partially unresponsive since latest update

Although control is set to Pen Tilt in the Brush Settings for Angle Jitter, the angle of the brush tip remains constant.  It only changes when you make a stroke, yet stays at the same angle even if the pen tilts in a different direction during that stroke.

This issue comes up with the latest update of Photoshop (v21.1, Windows 10), on both a Cintiq 22HD & a Cintiq Pro 24" (Wacom driver 6.3.38-2).

Has this issue been solved in the newer releases of Photoshop? (at the moment latest Photoshop is 22.4.1).
I am still experiencing it, I don't know what to try.
I tried downgrading and the PSUserConfig.txt method but it didn't work.

Photoshop does not support WinTab any more since version 21.1, I think, as it has been deprecated by Microsoft in favor of Windows Ink.

I had the same issue for a long time. HOWEVER, it turned out that this as a bug with the Windows Ink API that has been fixed in Windows 10 Versions 2004 and higher. But since Microsoft decided to do a weird, long rollout phase, I did not get that update until late 2020. After that, pen tilt worked correctly with Windows Ink and current versions of Photoshop CC.

made an account just to say that in 2021 this is still a problem. It's fixed by WinTab sometimes but lately I open photoshop and get the error again (it's like it thinks I'm using a mouse to paint) and PSUserConfig is no different. Errors like this combined with getting rid of pixel lines and wrecking the functionality of things like tools and drop shadow really makes photoshop seem like a dying program resting on its industry standard laurels

@roelof_venter even for 2021 this problem still persists and this comment is still the only helpful comment anywhere online I can ever find.

I am also having this issue on my surface pro. the tilt changes when i first press down and updates as I draw but the preview before and after is static. The solution above did not work for me.

Hi all, I have been having the same issue with the live updating of the brush tip when using the rotate feature of the Wacom Art pen, I recently upgraded to recent version of PS and noticed my brush no longer showed the cursor rotation as it did in previous versions ( the brush did rotate but the cursor stayed in the default static position )

Before in previous version of PS, you had to enable brush Pose and then Brush projection in Shape dynamics to see the brush update live as you rotated your pen.

After some playing about trying to figure it out, I discovered this...

It seems in this version of PS rotation using the Wacom Art Pen is controlled by Angle Jitter - Rotation in the brush Dynamics section of your brush settings.

Set the angle jitter to Rotation, and enabling Brush pose with Override Tilt X and Tilt Y enabled. Set rotation in Brush pose to 360

Your brush cursor will now rotate live when you rotate the Wacom art pen.

Hope this helps others who have been struggling with this issue as well

Someone mentioned seeing a circle when touching pen to tablet. This could be due to the "Press and Hold to Right-Click" feature of Windows Ink.  I was able to disable this annoying feature without disabling Windows Ink (and loosing Pen Rotation) by editing the following Registry key:

Using Regedit, go to the following location:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Pen\SysEventParameters

Change the value of HoldMode from 1 to 3.

Same deal for a touch surface, go to:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch

Change the value of TouchMode_hold from 1 to 3.

This eliminates the circle, and the lag as well.

Had a chance to try again with latest Ps - 21.1.2 and have a small video.  It seems to happen about 20 mins into an edit session.  Use the hand tool to drag around or zoom in/out - it appears to work, but when you release the image snaps off work area.  Also I have wacom settings enabling ue win lnk - then the pen rotation and other pen actions work.  but when use first touch pen to tablet, a circle glows up on screen causing a lag.
