P: Photoshop drawing random lines when using tools (Remove, Brush and other drawing tools)

Bonjour,

Hi everyone, I’m experiencing a serious issue with Photoshop’s Remove Tool and can’t find a solution.

Whenever I make even the smallest click or short stroke, the Remove Tool automatically creates long, erratic scribbles across the image, far beyond where I clicked. It behaves as if it’s dragging uncontrollably, even though my input is minimal.

I’ve already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

    • Updated Photoshop to the latest version

    • Updated my graphics drivers

    • Updated my mouse drivers

    • Tested with a different mouse

    • Tried multiple Photoshop versions, including the Beta

The issue persists across all of them.

Has anyone encountered this before or knows what might be causing it? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Grazie a chi saprà aiutarmi

Hi @deris66, please try to reset the Brush Tool to defaults:

    • With the Brush Tool selected, click the gear icon in the Options bar.

    • Choose Reset Tool.

Additionally; this problem is not apparent in MS paint or using the Adobe Illustrator paintbrush function, which leads me to believe it is an issue with photoshop?

    Using photoshop V 27.3

When I try to draw a line with a mouse, upon the very first click, instead of a circle appearing at the point of my curser, a totally random line, sometimes multiple, will spawn from the origin of the click. Sometimes the next time I try to draw a line, it will be fine, but if I switch tools or change windows(eg. click on google chrome and then back to photoshop), the random lines will appear again. I’ve seen some previous posts and tried the solutions listed there, eg. turning off GPU, turning off rulers, etc, but nothing works. Hoping someone has a fix for this

Hey, @vincent_8939. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I’ll clarify this for you.

This is a Windows-only known bug that, in some cases, gets resolved with graphics driver updates. The team is investigating this, and I’ve moved your post to Bugs and updated the status for now.

    Thanks!

I am having an issue after the latest Photoshop updates with the tools behaving erratically. For ex. the Patch tool will make a random zigzag selection and the same happens with other tools like the regular Brush, Healing Brush, Clone Stamp etc. It seems like a glitch that randomly happens and you have to try several times to make the tool work.

I updated to the latest version and the problem persists.

To anyone having the same issues: It seems that the issue was related to the Drivers. Windows had all the latest updates but there were some additional updates from Dell that I needed to install and now the problem is fixed!

what’s going on? Some posts have just been simply deleted. A serious bug currently ongoing with brush, stamp tools, etc being completely impossible to control is the subject of many posts like the following one have just disappeared!  So impossible now to get any feedback or follow up! 😡
