P: Photoshop Splash Screen is showing up on Mission Control even after app is fully opened

When I launch Photoshop, the Splash Screen shows up. Then the app opens and the Splash Screen still shows on Mission Control as an active window. If I click it, it does nothing. If Photoshop window is not minimized, it shows two Photoshop instances. This is driving me nuts! Video attached for reference.

thanks for the reply. I will also point out that the issue is still happening even after updating to the version 27.

Hi @igoroliveiragg and others,

Thanks for following up. I wanted to let you know I’ve been checking into this further. I was able to reproduce the behavior partially, and I’ve already shared your report and video with the Photoshop product team.

Here’s what I can share so far:

  • The team tested on macOS 26.0.1 Tahoe with Photoshop 26.11.0 (release) and 27.1 (internal build), but didn’t see the issue.

  • The current suspicion is that the code that dismisses the splash window isn’t being executed because of an exception occurring beforehand. That may also explain the generic “A program error occurred…” dialogs some users see.

I’m waiting on next steps from engineering and will update here as soon as I hear anything.

Best,

Anshul Saini

Facing the same issue. Every time I go to Photoshop, the splash screen appears.

I had this happen yesterday, and I never invoked the About Photoshop command. Finally quit and relaunched and the splash screen went away. Clicking on it did not dismiss it.

Hey, @igoroliveiragg. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I've moved your post to the Discussions. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Did Photoshop close normally the last time it worked?

Try these steps to get Photoshop to launch:

  • Ensure Photoshop has the required permissions on macOS: https://adobe.ly/3DyUwsz
  • Ensure there are no stale preferences in your Photoshop. You can go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to back it up. (https://adobe.ly/3u7u84j) This method is more effective compared to the in-app Reset Preferences at quit method.

macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2025 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2025.old)

This will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a new installation. Also, have you tried using Photoshop (beta)? Go to Creative Cloud > Apps section > Beta Apps tab.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

This has been happening for a while now, and yes, closed normally last time I lauched it.
Tried all that, still same error. I will not try the beta version, I prefer to use the currently released stable version.
