When I create a droplet in Photoshop 2025, it creates a folder instead of an EXE file. What is the solution?

I cannot create droplets. PS doesn' let mit create them. I have triedd to uninstall and reinstall PS 2025, but the result is the same.

I receive an errormessage when I click Ok: 'Could not complete the Create Droplet command because the file was not found'.

When I look in Finder, I can se that a folder was created with (I assume) the correct contents of the final droplet-file, however the file is not created.

When I try again, the error message is different: 'Could not complete the Create Droplet command. A file with the name ''Contents" already exists'.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I have created droplets in the past with previous PS versions but for whatever reason I am getting this error in PS 2024 25.9.0. I am doing this on a Mac - OS 15.4.1

Could not create the droplet because the file name was invalid.

PS creates a folder where I save it but then this error appears.

HELP? 🙂

Thank you!

Hi @Christopher3440329747o5! I totally understand the frustration.

The latest version of Photoshop is 26.6. Could you update and see if that helps?

As a first step, we can also try resetting the preferences. This will restore Photoshop to its default state and often solves unexpected issues. Just make sure to create a backup, as it will reset your workspace, brushes, and other settings. Here's how to do that: Reset Photoshop Preferences.

Thank you so much!

Wow - why can't Adobe get anything right?

I just installed 26.6 and this is the error I get now! Take me back 10 years ago when things worked!

Could not complete the Create Droplet command A file with the name “Contents” already exists..

Oh wait - I tried it again changing the name and now THIS is the error I get.

Could not complete the Create Droplet command because the file was not found.

This is such a joke!

Regarding the "Droplet" problem, even in the latest version of PhotoShop™v26.6.0 the issue does not appear to have been corrected and I have NOT heard any updates from ADOBE on the status of this.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ADOBE, CAN YOU FIX THIS or explain why it my not be possible due to the macOS?

This has been going on now way too long. Thank you.

Did anyone find the solution for this issue? I am on Mac Studio Ver 15.4.1 and Photoshop 26.6.0 release. Its driving me crazy. Thought the problem was only with me until I searched this thread.

Oh ok I see, sorry then, I follow the comment section for that and it worked for me. I didn't read all of it. I didn't know the initial issue.

@Caroline. This is not the same problem. The one you're talking about is the next step. The messages with "trash" are

when you're trying to use/run  it. It's already fixed with the permissions. We're talking here about "creating" the droplet....and it's just not working at all 😞

I coudn't tell exactly. All I know is I had an issue and someone in the comment said to to just that and it worked for me also. Thought I would help...

I don't believe the problem you have just cited is the same one this thread was originally started for. Can't even get a droplet created. All software companies have the unenviable task of testing and keeping up with OS updates. The fact that the droplet creation function is still brocken is a disaster for those who rely on them for their workflows. Adobe users shouldn't have watch updates come and go with no fix for such an important issue, and they shouldn't have to be searching for workarounds for something that has been an invaluable tool for many many years. If Adobe plans to retire droplets they should just say, or else they should just fix it before the next update. Not keep people hanging. I remember when the PDF creation function was broken in Bridge. It was a nightmare and took ages for Adobe to fix. Thankfully that happened eventually. But just need the droplet fix ASAP...

I had the same problem with IOS, I created my droplet, then press ok to the message that says that it should be put to trash. Then went into system preferences and allowed the droplet to run in the firevault section. You have to allow it anytime you make a new droplet. Restarted the computer and it works 🙂

I had to convert (6000) RAW files to JPG’s.  I normally would have used the droplet tool. My work around for this problem was to use the batch process.  It worked great as I made an action to open a RAW file, process image, and then save as a jpg file.  After you have made your action go to File/Automate/Batch. Under Play (top left) choose your action. In Source choose your folder of images, click override Action “Open” commands, suppress File Open Options Dialogs and Suppress Color Profile Warnings. You then choose your Destination on where you want the file saved. Click Override Action “Save As” Commands, then okay and watch it work.  I did a small test of 2-3 images first, and then 50 images, before I ran all (6000) images and the next morning it was done. Hopefully this info will help someone with the same problem.
