P: PS 27.4 Missing ALT keyboard shortcuts in Image > Canvas Size

In Photoshop 27.4, the new Canvas Size window is missing the Windows ALT shortcuts (pressing ALT+W to highlight the Width and ALT+H to highlight the Height). This happened in 25.4 with the Image Size window and was fixed due to complaints, so I’m assuming this was an oversight due to Adobe being MacOS-first, and I’m reporting it as a bug rather than a feature request. But these shortcuts are ABSOLUTELY VITAL to the efficient operation of Photoshop and CANNOT be forgotten about.

FOR NOW, you can turn “Modern User Interface” off to get the old Canvas Size window back, but for how long?

(Yes I know Microsoft themselves have stopped being as consistent about remembering to exclude them, and they’re off by default in Windows 11 Explorer and have to be turned back on. No I don’t care. They’re VITAL.)

If in Photoshop you go to Edit>Preferences>Technology Previews, uncheck Enable Modern User Interface and restart Photoshop, do the hotkeys work in the Canvas Size dialog?

Yep. We probably won’t be able to turn that off after another version of two, though, since “previews” tend to become the only option eventually.

Bit of an odd change, it looks less polished and designed than the old UI.  The width/height numbers are misaligned between the groups, “relative to current dimension” should be “dimensions” or “size”, the arrows in the anchor widget are gone, and the font is a bit smaller and harder to read (it was in a good place before and there’s probably no fix other than making *all* text bigger with the UI font size option).  Hopefully at least the hotkeys get fixed.

After updating to 2026 (27.6.0), the hotkeys in the Canvas Size dialog are gone.  I have years of muscle memory to press Alt-H or Alt-W to focus the height or width field.  Now I have to tab multiple times to go from field to field.  Please restore the hotkeys, it looks like the dialog was recreated and they were forgotten.

(Side note: hotkeys for the anchor would be useful, eg. alt-numpad-1 to switch the anchor to the bottom-left.)

Hey, @Lee Saxon. Thanks for bringing this up. I’ve raised it to the team for review.

For now, you can go to Photoshop’s preferences > Technology Preview > uncheck ‘Enable Modern user interface’ & restart Photoshop to restore this function.

    Thanks!
