P: PS 27.4 Setting the default in Preferences > Units to "inches" is ignored by Canvas Size

Adobe Photoshop Version: 27.4.0 2
Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit

When I go to Image → Canvas Size, the default is always pixels. I want it to be inches.

Note: I have checked in preferences, units and measures, and the default is inches. Also when I go to image → Image size, the default is in fact inches, which is what I expect.

Is the default unit for image → canvas size now different? Is there a different place to set it?

thanks

Just confirming that in version 27.9.1 this is still broken. I originally posted this bug in 27.4.02. It was reported fixed in 27.6, but was confirmed by users here that it was still not working correctly.

This is costing us enough time that we want to roll back to the last known good version of PS without this bug. Does anyone know what version that is? Would it be 27.3.x?

Is it possible to change the status of this bug from “released” to something else, since a number of people including myself have reported that it was in fact NOT fixed. Thanks

This is not fixed for me as of August 11, 2026. (Windows 11 Pro; Photoshop 27.9.1 Release).

I originally posted this bug 5 months ago. Almost half a year ago, and it has been a daily pain in the backside ever since. Honestly for a regressive bug like this, that does cause a lot of user pain, that’s a long time.

This bug continues to plague me. All day long I have to constantly go back and switch from pixels to inches as I change canvas size. All….. day…………...long…………

Is Adobe going to fix this for real? Ever? I sure would appreciate it.

Having the same problem, I’ve tried suggestions on the internet, so far nothing has helped.  When I open a new file, or adjust canvas size the default measurement is ‘pixels’.  I click ‘inches’ to resize my image, and the next time I resize my image it has reverted to pixels again.  Thousands of times.  I also lose a lot of time searching the web looking for a solution.  ‘Help’ ought to offer a way to make inches the default measurement.  This wasn't an issue in the past, I am sorry it seems like the people updating photoshop are out of touch with the user experience, how am I supposed to keep wasting time unnecessarily?

27.8.0, Friday and Today are particularly bad. So many mouse clicks. So annoying. Seriously, this was never fixed and it’s super annoying if you’re using PS professionally. ALLLLLL DAYYYYYYYY LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.

Hi @bellevue scott, Thanks for reaching out! I would recommend creating a new post with the following:

    1. System Info: Your system info can be obtained by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here.
    2. A numbered list of the exact steps needed to replicate the issue.
    3. Expected result - what should happen after executing the last step.
    4. Actual result -  what actually occurred after the previous step.
    5. If possible, a screen recording or screenshots of your work area.

Once we get that information, we can help you troubleshoot the issue. Thanks! ^CH

    Hi Claire

This bug was supposedly fixed, so Adobe is aware of it. But it’s not fixed, and several others have reproduced it and confirmed.

Mac M1 Studio Pro Ultra with 128GB RAM, Tahoe 26.5.2

    Adobe PS 27.8.0

Open settings → Preferences → Units and Measures

make sure rulers is set to inches.

    Open an image in PS

    Edit - > canvas size.

    Expected: value is in inches

    Actual: (often, randomly) it’s pixels.

@tobymars try disabling this option in the preferences and restarting Photoshop to see if it helps

To mám zaškrtnuté.
