P: PS 27.7 Modern UI: Save For Web file names cannot copy/paste text

Using the latest Photoshop 27.7 with Modern User Interface enabled, in the file dialog launched from Save for Web you cannot copy/paste text into the file name. Also when you hit the escape key to cancel the file dialog and return to Save for Web screen, hitting escape a second time does not close out of Save for Web but command-period still does. If you avoid trying to copy/paste text the escape key still works correctly. Disabling Modern User Interface returns all the expected behavior. This is on a fresh machine set up a couple weeks ago.

Workaround: Use right-click in the text field to paste.

9th of september, this bug poped 2 days ago and is still live for Save for Web (Legacy), which makes me crazy.

Bonjour,

J’ai un problème depuis les deux dernières versions de Photoshop.

Lorsque j’enregistre pour le web mes fichiers, il m’est impossible d’utiliser les raccourcis clavier

suivants :

command c

command v

lorsque je veux remplir le nom de mon fichier ou que je crée un nouveau dossier via la fenêtre.

Ça freine énormément mon workflow, je suis obligé de passer par mon trackpad ou ma souris.

This has been driving me insane for months. I swear Adobe is sadistic and they like torturing their customer base because why the f*&k would you take away the ability to paste text as a file name? This has added so much time to my workflow. It is f*&king maddening and I hope they can f*&king fix it.

@Zae Zur, I just tested this, and it worked fine. (Windows 11 Pro; Photoshop 27.10.0 Release). I used Notepad to type out a file name (photoshopcommunity-001), copied it to my clipboard, opened Photoshop, opened an image file, used File > Save As, pasted the text, and saved the file. Is that what you are doing or something else?

As of today, I am on 27.8.0 and it's not working for me. I wonder if I should try going back to 25 to see if that was the last version it was working OK.

It's just a pain in the butt that affects me daily because I have to hand type sometimes really long file names that are for projects or for clients so it definitely doesn't speed up the workflow taking that away. I'm on OSX and I can say for sure this was happening in the previous version of Photoshop and my previous operating system, it's been about six months.

Just tested on my system, and it’s working fine, although I’m on Windows 11, so it might be a Photoshop/macOS issue

@lucky.taniguchi what exactly do you mean, when I open the save for web dialog the focus is on the save icon, can you post a screenshot to highlight the issue

What I meant is the final step in "Save Optimized As...".

After selecting File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy) and clicking Save, the "Save Optimized As..." dialog appears.

The issue occurs in this dialog. I can type a file name directly into the File Name field, but Command + V does not paste text into the field. It appears that keyboard focus is not correctly set for paste operations when the dialog opens.

I expected to be able to immediately paste a file name using Command + V, just as I can in other standard Save dialogs.

When using File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy), the Save dialog appears, but keyboard focus is not placed on the dialog correctly.

In Photoshop 27.7and 27.8 go to Photoshop>Settings>Technology Previews, uncheck Enable Modern User Interface and restart Photoshop.

Check If you still have the same issue with Save for Web.

Yes, I can confirm this bug and also confirm that disabling Enable Modern User Interface fixes it. Well, at least it restores the copy/paste functionality. Undo/redo doesn’t work (beeps instead), although I don’t know if this worked before either.

I’ve noticed this bug since Photoshop 27.7, and it seems to still be an issue in 27.8. I use the Save For Web & Devices option when exporting images all of the time for my job. I noticed in 27.7, we got a fancy new UI for that particular dialogue box, but it seems that it is bugged. After hitting the Save button in that dialogue, my system (Mac OS Sequoia 15.7.7) dialogue box opens to let me name my file and choose its location. However, in this system dialogue, I can no longer access the keyboard shortcuts for Copy or Paste (a huge productivity issue when it comes to naming files). It provides an audio cue, the little “pop” noise on Mac that typically results from an inaccessible action, and I’m stuck having to key in file names manually.

I don’t know if the new Save For Web & Devices UI is the culprit, but I only notice the issue on Photoshop 27.7 and 27.8. Photoshop 27.6 uses the old UI, and so I’ll have to continue using that until this issue is fixed.
