@Sameer K, I tested this again just now and noted the steps (Windows 11 Pro; Photoshop 27.8 Release).

Launch Photoshop from the Creative Cloud Desktop app.
Open TIFF file.
Image > Canvas Size.
Dialogue opens in Pixels.
Change to Inches.
Click OK.
Close TIFF file.
Open JPG file.
Image > Canvas Size.
Dialogue opens in Pixels.
Change to Inches.
ADD a width of .25 Inches.
Click OK.
Canvas is extended correctly, but I want to add more.
Image > Canvas Size.
Dialogue opens in Pixels.
Change to Inches.
Click OK.
Rinse and repeat ad infinitum!

Hey, @J E L & @bellevue scott. I’ve branched out your comments into a new bug thread, and have shared it with the team for review.

    Thanks!

    Adobe PS 27.7.0

This is not fixed. It appears random. I have restarted PS 10 times this morning, and restarting doesn’t appear to effect it. I will restart, then open an image and select canvas size (command+alt+C). It appears in inches as expected.

Edited a dozen images, then one came up pixels. That image was a PNG screen capture, so I assumed it was PNG. Tried several other PNG files, but they come up inches. Then another TIFF image randomly comes up pixels instead of inches.

I can’t find anything consistent. Just sometimes it is pixels and sometimes inches. On Friday one of the editors here said he thought it was pixels on restart, but that’s not what I’m seeing with targeted testing. It just appears random.

    Hope this helps the investigation.

With all due respect, the bug has been verified and was approved for a fix but it’s not fixed. Something like this shouldn’t require community upvotes to get investigated and fixed by Adobe.

It’s not fixed in 27.7. Now sometimes it’s inches, and sometimes it’s pixels. But it’s not fixed. I could post an image, but it would just show the canvas size screen with pixels and not inches. But, sorry Sameer. I can assure you after a few days of updating to 27.7 on a MAC that it’s not fixed.

Whatever preferences I set for units and rulers, when I open the image size dialog it is defaulted to a resolution of 72 pix/inch. I work in metric, and would like that when I open the dialog it shows my working standard. Any suggestions?

    TIA

    PS 27.7.0 Mac

In PS, canvas size always defaults to pixels even when user settings are set to inches. I’ve reported this in earlier versions and thought it was fixed, and at one point it was verified by Adobe staff and experts here as a valid bug. It looks like it was never fixed.

This is super annoying if you’re a professional user that adjusts canvas size many times a day. I would love to see this fixed. It is a super pain all day long.
