Hey, @courtneyb35769356. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I’ll help you figure this out.

I just tried this, and Photoshop is functioning as expected. We were unable to reproduce this issue during our last attempts in April.

To start, make sure there are no outdated preferences in your Photoshop. You can do this by navigating to the preference folder located below and renaming it to "backup."

  • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

  • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe

  • macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings >

  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2026 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2026. old), You can restore these preferences later if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)

  • Restart the computer.

These changes will reset Photoshop like a new installation. If the issue persists, please share a video of the problem. Also, copy the system information from Help > System Info and paste it into a document to upload here.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Sameer K

I want to SCREAM! I can have existing text in Impact. If I select it all and want to type a new word, it defaults to Myriad Pro. If I click in the MIDDLE of existing text that is Impact (or other fonts) and start typing, it doesn’t stay in Impact. It keeps going to freaking Myriad Pro. I have to type it all In Myriad Pro, then highlight it all and change to the font I want. Which is ALWAYS something other than Myriad Pro.

PS version 26.11.1 On MAC Sequoya 15.6.1 (24G90)

I'm in the latest public release and this keeps defaulting to Myriad Pro for me too, with or without that preference change. Very frustrating. (26.4.0) on MacOS 15.7.1

This has started happening to me on the latest version as of this writing. The setting in preferences does solve this for now, but it's a bit annoying. It's not even like a real font switch anyway. Entering the text box again correctly converts the font, so something is clearly wrong here.

This is still and issue as of October 2025 with the most recent Photoshop CC update (26.11). Turning off Enable Missing Glyph does seem to fix it in most situations, but its still aggressively annoying and I'm sure tearing some people's hair out.

Tenative Fix:

Menu > Edit > Preferences > Type > Enable Missing Glyph Protection (Off)

Hi everyone, I have seen all of the workarounds and fixes for this, but I haven't yet seen how to do it on my desktop Photoshop 26.9.0 version. Is there a workaround I can use for this on Mac please?

No idea why but that seems to have fixed it!
