In Photoshop 27.4.0 you can't multiply dimensions with Image->Canvas Size tool. There's an error "A number between 1 and 300000 is required. Closest value insterted."

Division, addition, subtraction are working as before.

Adobe is aware of the issue and until it gets fixed the workaround is to go to Edit>Preferences>Technology Previews, uncheck Enable Modern User Interface and restart Photoshop.

Thank you! This allows the old interface to regain modern features. 🤣

An alternative workaround, without turning off the modern user interface, is to type the numbers then insert the * sign. So for 200*3 type 2003 then insert the * symbol to get 200*3. Canvas size will accept it that way.

    I’m using Photoshop 27.4 on Windows 11.
Since the last update, there was a change in a few value boxes regarding size of the art board, objects and images.

The one box that is specifically bothering me is the Image>Canvas Size (Ctrl+Alt+C), which the new box doesn’t accept * (asterisk) as a multiplication sign as it previously did. I tested other values boxes like generating a new document, a new shape or moving X and Y values for precise object placement, they all accept simple mathematic formulas.

Sometimes I'm working on a carousel and need an extra page, so I have to change the size of the art board. Instead of doing it by head or using an external calculator, I can simply type X*1080 to get the exact amount of panels that I need. Sum, Subtraction and division still work, but not multiplication.

I tried using "X”, like in 100x2 or 100 x 2, but it ends up as 1002. Also, parenthesis aren't working either. Every time I try to use *, (, or ), a message pops up saying it only accepts numeral between 1 and 300000.

This is a known issue. As a work-around for now, go to the Technology Preview section of the Preferences, and make sure the Enable Modern User Interface (I don’t know what exactly it is in German).

This is a known bug. There are two workarounds while we wait for a fix:

    1. Go to Preferences > Technology Previews and uncheck Enable Modern User Interface
      or
    2. Enter the numbers first then insert the *. So, in your example, 2000 becomes 20002 which then becomes 2000*2

An alternative workaround, while waiting for the fix, if you want to keep the modern user interface enabled is to add the multiplying number then insert the *.
So in your example 542 becomes 5422 then on inserting the symbol becomes 542*2

What does new dialog box for canvas size brings that old one wouldnt have? Now one of the best features got broken, if one needed to duplicate width area was just a matter of adding *2 after the input number, like here in PS21:

    with new dialog box:

Read down the thread, to the highlighted post by Sameer. It was only confirmed and logged with the development team 12 hours ago :-)
