Same problem here. Just upgraded to Catalina and having a host of issues.

This is my main Photoshop problem… making amendments to a layered psd and then resaving the flattened CMYK jpeg that links into my design file is a normal part of my day. This problem is extremely disruptive to workflow and there is no work around besides manually navigating to the file and renaming it, while deleting the previous iteration.

It's not perfect, but if it stops me from having to go in and manually change and delete files just so my freaking links don't break, so be it. Thanks for the heads up.

Including the word "copy" at the end of your file name fools Photoshop into overwriting the file. When I first save a file, usually a set of layers I've altered and need to send it to my 3D app, I name it Filename copy.png or whatever format I need and Save As with that filename and viola! No more redundant files. It's a silly thing to have to do but it works.

I stopped using "Export As", which is the most color accurate for the color profile I use imo, because it removes all of the paths that are needed and it doesn't save TIFF files. So no more Export for me. Too much color shifting with the other Export methods, yes even with the embedded color profile.

But a workaround should not be an issue to begin with. It's the only program on my computer that can't perform this simple function and needs to be fixed.

Found it, you can change quick export options in preferences.

I think by default there is no shortcut to Quick Export to jpg so it's just a matter of applying one

Did you have to change the existing quick export to png or make a new shortcut?

I am also fed up - but I have done a workaround. As Save as is ... ⌘Shift-S, I went to my Edit -> Keyboard shortcuts and  allocated the Quick Export as jpg with a shortcut key ... ⌘Shift-A which is right next the ... ⌘Shift-S so doesn't requre too much muscle memory shift. And As I barely ever use The Filter for Camera Raw (which is ... ⌘Shift-A by default, I simply overwrote that and accepted it. It's not pefect but it's far better than continually deleting old jpgs renaming your files in Finder! That's a real faff especially when multiple jpgs are linked to your InDesign files and they are constatnly needing manually updating!

I appreciate and understand this 1996 Pshop reference. lol

Ha, love that in 2020 we have to say don't use Save As. 1996 it was, make sure you use Save As instead of Save.
