So, turning OpenCL off seemed to help for me. But what is it? Did I just disable something else that I want to use? Can anyone elaborate on this?

I'm so happy this option is still available.  The new Select and Mask does not do as good of a job on Hair like Refine Edge.  I'll mask hair, with the hair brush, and other parts of my image, that I did not paint on, start getting masked out.  Very frustrating.  So, please keep the secret Refine Edge until you guys can make S&M work better.  Please. and thanks.  and cheers!  -Josh

David, did you mean to post this here? There's a thread about ⌘F1 shortcut here: cant-locate-os-shortcut-key-to-override

Command F1 is mapped to toggle display mirroring.  I saw this note in discussions.apple.com/thread/2793101

Use KeyRemap4Macbook (now known as Karabiner). It takes a while to learn how to use it, but it's very powerful. The following custom setting in private.xml works for me to simply disable this keyboard shortcut:
     <item>
          <name>Disable Mirroring Shortcut</name>
          <identifier>private.disable_mirroring_shortcut</identifier>
          <autogen>--ConsumerToKey-- ConsumerKeyCode::BRIGHTNESS_DOWN, VK_COMMAND, KeyCode::VK_NONE</autogen>
     </item>

Are you using a Mac?  if so, try turning off Open CL.  We could not use Select and Mask without doing this.  Here is how to do it:
  1. Photoshop CC menu > Preferences > Performance
  2. Click on the "Advanced Settings..." button in the right section called Graphics Processor Settings
  3. In the dialogue that pops up Uncheck the option that says "Use OpenCL".
  4. Click OK
  5. and then OK one more time.
  6. Give Select and Mask it a try now.
This fixed PS for us.

make your selection, then hold down shift and go select/select and mask.
