P: Severe lag when grid is turned on (esp with subdivisions) with Photoshop 22.5-21.2.11
Performance becomes very bad/laggy when the grid is turned on, especially when using subdivisions. It also takes a good 2-3 seconds for the grid to show up once pressing Ctrl + ' for the first time after opening Photoshop. Turning on the grid again after the first time, even in different documents, is much faster, but the bad performance is the same.
If I change the number of subdivisions to something smaller, the performance improves (but it is still bad). Making the grid larger also improves the performance. Performance seems to be affected by the scale of the grid - the finer and/or the more subdivisions, the worse the performance. The subdivisions have a much bigger impact on performance than the rest of the grid - for example, a grid sized at 1 px and no subdivisions has noticeably better performance than a grid sized 8 x 8 with 2 subdivisions. If I change the document size to something smaller, performance improves a little bit as well.
I am currently using an 8 x 8 px grid with 4 subdivisions. The performance with this setting is absolutely atrocious - panning around takes forever and is a slideshow, changing to a different tool with the grid on takes a few seconds, etc.
Some form of this issue has existed before on previous versions as well, like Photoshop 21.1, as seen here in the comments.
I have tried every downloadable version of Photoshop from 22.5 to 21.2.11 and they all have this issue. I used some version of Photoshop 22 this year and do not recall having this problem earlier, but I have not not used Photoshop extensively for much of the year so I cannot be sure. Seemingly no issues with my computer, as I use other programs like Unity 3D and all types of games without problems.
Here are my specs:
Windows 10 (latest updates)
AMD Ryzen 1800x
Nvidia 1070 GTX
32 GB RAM @ 3200
Samsung 960 EVO 1 TB SSD
