P: The state of folders in Presets panels is not remembered between session

Currently, I have 30 some styles folders on my Styles palette. I like to keep all of these folders expanded so that I can quickly scroll through them and select the styles which are located in each of these folders. However, since updating to Photoshop 21.01 or 21.0.2, whenever I launch Photoshop, all of these folders are collapsed, and I have to take the time to expand them all again using the disclosure triangle. Is there some setting which will allow me to always have these styles folders already expanded each time I launch Photoshop? Thanks in advance.

Done. I just created a new thread regarding saving styles automatically.

I can confirm that the collapsed styles folders issue is indeed fixed on my 2017 5K iMac running macOS Catalina 10.15.3. I just ran 21.1 for the first time. I manually opened all of my styles folders, and then relaunched Photoshop two times. In both instances, the folders all remained open.

> That is, I would really like to see when we create a new style, it is automatically saved as an .asl file in the Presets/Styles folder,

Oh, okay. Not an "issue" in their minds because that's the way it always has been, but a feature request from us to them—one that I think has been delivered often.  (sigh) I think we all agree that too few people realize they'll lose their presets if they don't save them right away to the hard drive, so an automatic way of preserving them is a very good idea.

I learned early on in my life with PS when I set out to make several new presets in a single session—and apparently there's a law that says if PS is ever going to crash, it's going to crash during a session like that. LOL

Ok, looks like I can't, could you start another thread with the auto save to all, but it is valid for every unsaved preset, including actions, etc.

Hello, Jeffrey refers to the former, (folders). Can you confirm it is fixed for you?

wordweaver, I think I will split the thread at the ouch level, since it is an unrelated issue to the first one, way easier to follow that way.

No, Cristen. What I was referring to is what we were discussing earlier. That is, I would really like to see when we create a new style, it is automatically saved as an .asl file in the Presets/Styles folder, and not just in a temporary memory space where it may be lost through a version upgrade, or due to some other unforeseen reason.

BTW, Jeffrey, I now have 21.1 installed. It became available shortly after I made my previous comment.

Automatically saved?  You mean does Adobe open to the Applications folder automatically? Because in my experience, it always opens to the last-used, so I can open anywhere and next time, that's what it will open to. By default it opens to the Library folder.

If you mean the permissions issue, I thought that was Apple. I just gave every folder in the chain a user permission and it works. Plus it does open to that folder again.

In all instances, regardless of where I'm saving it, the suggested file type IS .asl in the name field when I open Styles to save a style set.

Have I completely missed what you were referring to?

Jeffrey, I am still on 21.0.3. As far as 21.1 is concerned, it isn't showing up yet in my menubar app on my iMac. However, I will definitely keep an eye out for it.

BTW, when you say "This should be fixed", are you referring to the collapsing presets folders, or to the other issue where custom styles are not automatically saved as .asl files on one's hard drive?
