P: Unlinked layer mask no longer respects image resize, canvas resize, flip/rotate

Unlinked layer masks no longer get resized in an image resize operation – nor do they respect canvas size changes (ie. if you add canvas to the left side of the image the mask does not stay to the right with the rest of the image) . This is really painful – manually turning back on linking in a big document just to do an image or canvas size is a pretty awful workflow – and there's an enormously high risk of not spotting the error created from an unlinked mask until its too late.

Hi Jeffrey, I believe that's the way linked layer masks have worked in the past: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/unlinked_layer_masks_should_move_when_group_i...

Thank you Pete! I appreciate the notice on the update. The image document level transformations are now working well (flip, rotate, image size).

However, an unlinked layer mask is not be affected if its parent group is transformed. Is that correct?

Thank you

This issue should be fixed with the Photoshop CC 2018 (19.1.2) update which is now available.
Please install the update and let us know if you still see this issue.

To update, click Update next to Photoshop CC in the Creative Cloud desktop application.
If you don't see the update right away, click the 3 dots in the upper right and choose Check for App Updates.

Regards
Pete

confirm, similar stuff happening to me, i'm developing the habit to relink the masks before saving ... too much work in complex documents.

Hannah, Thanks again for your time and quick response. Additionally, unlinked layer masks no longer scale with their parent folder. This is a different behavior than before as unlinking decoupled the layer mask from its layer. Everything within the folder should scale as a unit.

I can also confirm this error, I just lost an hour of work because I resized, saved and reopened. The mask was completely off. It is really easy to miss on subtle masks. Please express the urgency of this bug.

While using the Flip Canvas Horizontal or Vertical features, Photoshop CC 2018 (not the case before) doesn't flip Unlink Mask.

It's really annoying will in Digital Painting we use a lot this feature too verify the proportions of the drawing...

my pleasure. could not really get it until luckystairs post, but by compairing it to the 2017 version – jepp there's the right behaviour, no error.
