P: When launching Photoshop it recurringly takes focus from another application/task (Windows)

When I open PhotoShop, it takes my computer a moment or two to open it (most of my PSDs are at least 2GB big), so I switch back to my browser to keep working, but every time there is an alert, or popup, or question, or it simply successfully opens the PSD, PhotoShop forces itself to the front, interrupting what I was doing in another window.
It can be very frustrating, especially since I am more often than not in the middle of doing something.
And I wish it was as simple as Alt+Tab-ing back to my window, but sometimes it just forces its way to the front again!
I don't suppose this is a feature that can be taken off/switched off?

Well, after the splash screen, Photoshop stays in the background for me, so obviously there must be something different between our setups. I've got Win7 32 bit. Windows Performance Options are set to "Adjust for best performance". Photoshop is version 19.0.1.29687 (according to the details of the file properties).
When does Photoshop steal focus for you now? Is it when it's done (that's when it's just flashing in the taskbar for me).

Sure its recurring. Everytime you start PS. 😉 The Splash-Screen is ok, but after PS shall stay in the background.
I have to admit, with the new version stealing focus has become less annoying. But the issue still persists.

Well, that is not what I would call recurringly taking focus. One time is not "recurring".  And for me it's not even doing that, unless you count the splash screen, which is a very common thing for programs to have. Then, when all is loaded, Photoshop just flashes in the taskbar, without taking focus.

Hannah, as others already said, Photoshop still steals focus once. Please fix this and please don't let it linger for another year. Thank you.

I can confirm (as many others already did) that the latest Version still steals the focus once. Please fix this. (And please don't let this linger for one year again.)

For me, this issue hasnt been fixed. PS still takes focus (1x) on loading. Still annoying. I'm using the latest version (updated yesterday).

This has been corrected in the last version of Photoshop. You probably need to update (there is an official reply above).

Expected: Open photoshop and I can keep working / coding while it loads.

Actual: Open photoshop and when I alt tab back to my code editor, photoshop steals focus 5 times while I alt tab back to my other work.

Result: I'm feeling agitated. Every time. Several times every day. It makes me want to stop paying for photoshop.

Much better than it was, but still seems to steal focus when the program is ready to use.  I would prefer for it to remain in the background until I manually go back to it.

No, it's not fixed Adobe! Simply set your images not to open as tabs and run Scripts--Image Processor on a batch and see what happens.
