P: (Win/macOS) PS 27.5 Image Flickering When using Image > Adjustment > Curves

Since version 27.4 and continuing in 27.5 I’ve been experiencing image flickering when using the Curves adjustment.

In version 27.4, the issue occurs in all Curves use cases. In 27.5, it appears primarily when applying Curves as a Smart Adjustment on a Smart Object. It is slightly improved, but still noticeable when using Curves as a standard adjustment layer.

I’ve attached a video demonstrating the issue:

  • The first example shows Curves applied as a Smart Adjustment on a Smart Object (strong flickering).

  • The second shows a direct adjustment on a non-Smart Object layer (no issue).

  • The third shows a standard adjustment layer (minor flickering still visible).

The flickering is clearly visible, especially in the first case.

Please look into this issue, as it makes precise adjustments very difficult.

Thank you.

    Beta 27.11

The problem with the curves not only persists but has gotten worse. It updates the result again with a significant delay. It’s impossible to work.

    On 27.3.1, everything is perfect.

I still have this problem with Photoshop 2026 on my M1 Macbook Pro machine.

My SO has the same problem on her brand new M4 Mac Studio. So seems to be a wide issue, or really bad luck. 😅

Rally no love for curves and adjustment layers out there? 😕

27.9.1 Bug still here and even worse. Why Adobe? Don’t you see that? It is not possible to use the adjustment layers anymore. Curves are flickering. Hue/Saturation, Brightness/Contrast and some aothers have e new weird behaviour also - when moving the sliders the changes are visible only after let go and stop to move the slider?

Confirming the same bug here. I specifically tested: versions 27.2 and 27.3 work perfectly (Curves updates instantly), but starting from 27.4 and also in 27.5 there's a delay of up to 1 second to update the color/preview when moving points on the curve. This happens even with a completely empty document, no layers, with GPU enabled and disabled, with OpenCL enabled and disabled, after a full preferences reset, and with no third-party plug-ins loaded. Hardware: AMD Radeon RX 580 16GB, Ryzen 5 4500, Windows 11.

    Beta 27.10

The lag when working with curves has become less jerky, and there is a certain smoothness, but it still doesn't work well.

I’m in a room with six M1 Mac Studios and we all see this problem. Humans operate the Mac Studios, I don’t have six all just for me.

Something is still very wrong with the curves. Now sometimes I can’t even move them. I can place a poin on the curve, but then cant move it with mouse ot graphic tablet. only with keyboard arrows. Please fix the curves Adobe!

Curves are very, very slow, if used as an adjustment layer. Compare it to 26.11.5 r.177, where they are still realtime. This bug has come and gone since many, many years.
My PC is Win 10, I9 12900k, 32GB RAM, RTX 3060/12 GB VRAM, latest driver (which btw. was never (!) the problem in the past years, but is nearly always the first question from Adobe.)

The beta version 27.8 is a little better, but there are still significant lags when working with curves.

    Yes, still extremely slow.

Same bug here. Only happens when I try to use the shortcut (cmd + m) to add curves into a smart object image / asset. If its rasterized, I don’t get any flickering on my screen.
