Photoshop 27.10.0 hangs when simply editing text

Since Photoshop added bullet lists to Text tool (T) (about 6+ months ago) when I use them (especially with indentation) it soon just hangs and requires Ctrl + Shift + Esc and “End process” because it will never recover.

CPU speeds up suddenly, it’s in some deadlock, infinite loop.

How to reproduce:

  • Use Text tool (T) with bullet lists, do indentation especially until it hangs.
  • What may be relevant: put Windows 11 to hibernation and restore and then edit text for 1-2 minutes in various ways.

    • Does the issue occur with all files or only with specific files?
    • Does Photoshop hang only when working with bulleted lists and indentation, or does it also happen while editing regular text?
    • If possible, please share a short screen recording showing the workflow leading up to the hang.
    • Please share your Photoshop System Info by going to Help > System Info > Copy and pasting it in your reply.
    • If the issue is reproducible with a specific file, please share a sample file with us, if possible.

    • It happens in all files.
    • Every time it hanged it happened during (1) [TAB] and (2) bulleted lists and (3) [BACKSPACE] usage and (4) clicking/selecting and (5) typing, so I assume multi-line bulleted lists (mixed with regular text maybe) are the issue.
    • I wish I could give you precise steps to reproduce this but sadly it works 99% of time and then 1% it just hangs at random, so it’s not easily reproducible… but usually I was able to get to merely like 5-10 bullet point lists, so when it happens it happens quite early in the process.
    • In screen recording there wouldn’t be anything to show: Photoshop just hangs and that’s it, cursor is stuck at “caret”, so doesn’t even go back to “pointer”, nothing is clickable, CPU fan turns on (normally it’s off), right-click and “Close window” in Windows 11 taskbar doesn’t work. Only Ctrl + Shift + Del and “end process” works.
    • I can reset preferences and use it for a bit and see and report back (in a few weeks) but I’m pretty sure i didn’t modify anything at all in the preferences ever except increasing RAM and selecting “Web UI” as performance preset with 2 levels of cache and 128k tile and reducing history to 20 states.
