Photoshop freezes after ctrl+click on any layer

It works as supposed. But as soon as I hit ctrl + D to deselect the app freezes.

PS Just to clarify the original problem: when I ctrl+click on the layer, I mean that I click on the image in the main window to make the desired layer selected in Layers panel, not to make selection of it's contents.

For testing purposes only, what happens when you right-click the layer thumbnail and choose Select Pixels from the context menu?

Worked correctly for a few days and just now happened again.

Update to the latest version seems to do the trick for now. Previous times it didn't help, as I mentioned, but now issue seems to be fixed. Will update the post if returns.
