Photoshop not opening "new" when using a screenshot to edit

Inconsistent and unpredicable as to whether when one takes a screenshot, Adobe Photoshop CC 2024 will show it at all when selecting "new".
In fact, now, when I click "new" I'm not able to see anything at all.

If the clipboard holds valid pixel data, then you should be able to create a new document using the clipboard.

P.S. Personally, whether on the Mac or Windows OS, I always save screenshots to PNG and never use the clipboard.
