Photoshop Select and Mask not working at all - Tried Everything

I've re-installed, reset preferences, tried every technique I've found online. Nothing is working. It has been like this for months. Nothing updates when I change any settting within select and mask. I can see the mask but nothing changees when I try to refine, or adjust any other settings.

 

I've attached a video of a selection of a pillow I made. I'm trying to modify the selection within Select and Mask.

 

This is ridiculous.

 

Please help.

Perhaps you are just using the wrong tool? In my opinion, Refine Edge is for tiny details. Have you tried using Brush or Quick Select to add the missing part of the pillow? Do you notice any changes when using Brush in Select and Mask?

Yes I have tried. I've tried using every tool and parameter within select and mask, many times. I was just using refine edge as an example. But that's irrelevant, that should also work even if it doesn't work well in that instance.
