PLEASE HELP - Linked smart objects - bottom linked smart object auto selects after 20 seconds

Hi - I have tried everything I can think of but am getting nowhere. Please help!

I am working with large files with multiple layers/groups, all containing a combination of regular layers, adjustment layers and linked smart objects.

If I modify a layer mask on one of the linked smart objects, the bottom linked smart object in the layers palette auto selects after approximately 20 seconds. This happens whether I continue working on other layers or simply put down my wacom. Irrespective of which linked smart object I have selected, it always auto selects the lowest linked smart object in the layers palette after around 20 seconds making it impossible to work on these images.

I have tried unchecking autoselect on the move tool, resetting my preferences, and completely uninstalling/re-installing Adobe CC with no luck.

PLEASE HELP!

@Sameer K  - Thanks for your reply. I have tried the preferences trick butthe problem still persists. I disconnected the Wacom and also the second monitor so this was purely on my iMac Pro. Here is the screen recording. I don't think it is a problem with the actual image file because I asked others in our studio to test it and it works fine on their machines, which points to a problem isolated to my mac maybe? The layer jumps to the bottom most linked smart object when either working on another layer or, as in this video, you simply select another linked smart object layer mask and just do nothing...

Any help you may be able to provide would be MASSIVELY appreciated!

Thanks for sharing the video & the details. I've tried working on old work documents & the issue did not recreate.

It might be the machine or the sensitivity of the pressure input.

As a test, try uninstalling the driver software for the Wacom device and checking if the issue appears again. If it does, contact our support team. Please head here (https://adobe.ly/3Xj5t7E) and select the chat button in the lower-right corner of the page.

Thanks!

Hey, @defaultq5qqwwggpqtm. Welcome to the Photoshop community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Does this happen with specific documents? Are the large documents stored on an internal or external drive?

Try completely disconnecting the Wacom device & share if you have a precise set to reproduce this issue. Additionally, a video of the behavior & a sample large document of your choice will help me investigate this.

On top of this, try these steps to manually clear up preferences in Photoshop:

Go to the location of the preference folder mentioned below and rename it to back up. (https://adobe.ly/3u7u84j)
macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2024 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2024.old)

This will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a new installation.

Let me know if it helps. Thanks!
