Smudge brush position jitters

Smudge Tool has a problem when using the Wacom pen and a soft brush with dynamics.

  • select the Smudge tool
  • Select a default brush with softness and shape dynamics settings (size, transfer, etc.).
  • Hold the cursor still or move it very slowly; the Smudge brush position jitters constantly by a few pixels, making precise control impossible.

Hard 0 % softness brush and a brush without any size or transfer dynamics, or using a mouse, works as expected.

    Thanks for reporting this and for including the detailed steps and environment information. Could you first update to Photoshop 27.8, which was released today, and check whether the issue still occurs?

     

    • Open the Creative Cloud Desktop app
    • Click Check for Updates
    • Install Photoshop 27.8 if it is available

    If you don’t see 27.8 yet, please give it a day or two, as the rollout can take a little time depending on the region, and then test again.

     

    Also, I wasn’t able to access the video from the link you shared. Could you please upload the recording to Google Drive, Dropbox, or a similar file-sharing service and share the download link here?

     

    If the issue persists in 27.8, we’ll want to send the video and reproduction details to the product team for investigation, so having an accessible recording will be very helpful.
