I completely hear and understand your frustration on this. A workaround is to use the Pitch Shifter effect instead of selecting 'Maintain Audio Pitch' when this happens to bring it back to the original intended pitch.

There is an Ideas thread here that can be upvoted so it can get more visibility and I'll notify the the team of it as well.
