I have very similar problem.
Every time I was using premiere with touchpad, while in transport - dragging with touchpad stopped, blocked, very randomly. I was fighting with it for 3 years, searched everything - I was furious.

The odd thing was - it was happening only with touchpad and only while transit.

Today I found out strange thing. When I moved my Mac from horizontal position to some angle - lets say from laying on table to 45degree on my laps - IT STOPPED DRAGGING. When I put it horizontal touchpad drags again! (It does not correlate with monitor angle, but with MacBook angle)
I am not sure if it is 100% correct, but I was so happy to find any clue - I came here to post.

I hope something can move with this issue! There is hope my not dragging friends.

Thanks for the input, but this is a different issue. The problem being discussed here occurs with a mouse as well, not just the trackpad. Furthermore, it only happens in Premiere, so it is clearly not a hardware issue.

Hi, having the same issue, I can’t stand it anymore, PLEASE fix it somehow. It’s been months. Even when using a fresh Premiere Pro 2026, without any extensions or plugins, still happens.

Do you use an external monitor with your MacBook?
or maybe some extensions like Morion Bro , Mr Horse or Premiere (Animation) Composer ? Do U enable Transmit for preview in external monitor?

MacBook Pro user, experiencing this more and more frequently to the point where the software is unusable. Affects ALL drag actions on the timeline. Cannot confidently select multiple clips/layers, cannot extend/reduce a clip - which is literally the whole point of editing software. While it makes a change to see ‘investigating’ as a status on a bug, this was first raised 2 months ago and there’s no update. FIX YOUR EXTORTIONATELY PRICED SOFTWARE!

Hi @Drew31697086puep ,

Thanks for the message. Welcome to the forums. Please give the team a few more details. Please see: How do I report a Problem?  Are you able to share a screen recording of the issues you’re experiencing?

- Does this happen in all workspaces or only specific panels?
- Does it happen in other applications or only Premiere?

Sorry for the frustration. I hope we can help you soon.

Hi Rach,

I can only tell from my experience, but I seem to have the same problem.

The issue appears irregularly, but only in Premiere Pro.

When dragging a random item, no matter if its in the timeline or from the project tab into the timeline, sometimes it only clicks at the point where the drag starts. the dragged items do not move with the cursor.

Sometimes, the problem is resolved with the next try dragging something, only to occur a few times later. Sometimes, it occurs several times in a row.

Restarting, reinstalling Premiere did not help. Restarting the computer also did not improve the issue. Sometimes, using a different mouse or computer helps.

The issue occurs between Pr 2025 and 2026.

I hope you can help soon because I am unable to work on the go. I unfortunately will have to switch to a better alternative soon.

Note: Sometimes, the drag gesture stops being registered WHILE dragging.

Hi @simonkleefuss,

Thanks for jumping in with some additional details, which really help. The fact that it only happens in Premiere and not other apps is useful info.

A couple of things worth trying:

  • Do you have any third party panels installed such as Artlist, Premiere Composer, or similar? If so, try closing or disabling them and see if the drag behaviour improves. Third party panels are known to interfere with drag operations in some cases.
  • Could you also try resetting your preferences by holding Cmd+Option on launch (Mac) and see if that makes a difference?

Also, could you let us know which exact version of Premiere you are on and which version of macOS you are using?  @Drew31697086puep are you also on a Mac?

Sorry for the frustration. I hope we can help you soon.
