Adjusting motion effects on flattened clip while in multicam preview mode causes playback issue

Issue: Using motion effects on flattened multiclips while the program monitor is still in multicam mode results in losing the ability to play video. This comes up regularly when working with a multiclip in which a 4k clip is mixed with HD footage, which one might want to resize and reposition.

Steps
- edit in multicam mode, with the multicam preview monitor active in the program window
- flatten a clip on the timeline for the purpose of punching in on the 4k shot
- while the multicam preview mode is still active, adjust the clip in the effect controls panel (scale, rotation, position)
- try to keep working

Actual: clip is resized, but playback controls don't work anymore. Not space or JKL or on-screen buttons. Restarting clears the issue and the motion effects remain applied. This is true whether the flattened clip is the only piece of video on any track, or if the clip is a dupe of the original multicam on the layer above.

note: simply resizing or rotating an _unflattened_ clip causes a brief hang of 20-30 seconds after which playback control resumes. It's possible that waiting long enough would clear the above issue, but not in 5 minutes or less.

Workaround: disengaging multicam preview mode, then making motion effect adjustments, then re-engaging multicam mode works, it's just a bothersome amount of additional steps.

Premiere: v 26.2.0 build 65
OS: MacOS Sequoia 15.7.5

    Hi @notArtist
Thanks for the detailed report and workaround.

To make sure I understand correctly, the issue only occurs when the Program Monitor is still in Multicam view and motion adjustments (Scale, Position, Rotation, etc.) are applied after flattening the multicam clip.

    A few questions:

    • Does the playback lockup occur with all multicam sequences, or only specific projects?
    • Approximately how many camera angles are in the multicam sequence?
    • Does the issue occur with proxy media turned on and off?
    • When playback becomes unresponsive, does the playhead move at all, or is the entire transport system frozen?
    • If you switch the Program Monitor out of Multicam view after the issue occurs, do you know whether playback resumes immediately, or is a restart still required?

The fact that disabling Multicam view before making motion adjustments avoids the issue is very helpful. It sounds like there may be an interaction between the multicam monitor state and the flattened clip's motion properties that leaves playback unresponsive.

If you can provide a short screen recording showing the workflow and the playback controls becoming unresponsive, that would be very helpful for confirming the behavior and reproducing it consistently.

Thanks for documenting the workaround as well.

    Hi Ian,

    In this bug as reported:

    - I haven't tested thoroughly, but I do observe the same behavior in a second multicam project, unrelated to the first with entirely different footage.
    - I have 3-7 angles at any given time. I haven't noticed whether more angles means more time spent frozen
    - I almost always have proxies on when pulling a bunch of streams at once for multicam. However, I do still see the behavior with the proxies off.
    - The playhead does move during the frozen period if I click to move it (it does not roll as if playing), but the program monitor does not update to match.
    - I can toggle the multicam monitor preview off with a keyboard shortcut and see that reflected in the UI, but the monitor itself does not update to reflect the change.

All of the above are true for the non-flattened clips as well, but Premiere seems to snap out of it faster in that situation.

I notice that in the situation with the flattened media, the MC Preview is still showing me the 9-up screen of the bottom layer, so perhaps the issue is in reconciling those clips with each other.
