Needs More Info

Adobe Premiere Pro keeps lagging when I perform actions such as cutting, moving, and trimming video clips.

  1. Hello, my current setup is a MacBook Pro with an M4 Pro chip, 24 GB of RAM, and 845 GB of free storage. I’m running macOS 27 Golden Gate, version 27.0.1.

Even when I perform simple actions in Adobe Premiere Pro, such as making a small cut or moving a clip, it occasionally freezes, and a loading icon appears next to the cursor. These freezes take around 1–3 minutes to recover from. Sometimes, the application also crashes and displays an error message.

Also, even when I think the lag has gone away, pressing the Play button does not start playback. The video remains frozen, and Premiere Pro continues to be unresponsive.

    Hi @rozigoGG

Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums and giving us those details about the freeze/lag issue you’re having, along with your setup on the m4 mac with Golden Gate OS.

    • Premiere version: What version and build of Premiere are you currently in? Go to Premiere > About Premiere to see this information.
    • I can see in the screen recording you go to trim a text title and then attempt playback, is that usually where you have freezing/lagging at so far or anywhere else notably?
      • Do the stalls (lag/freeze) get more frequent as time goes on or stays more intermittent?
    • Media Files: video, images, etc. and what types (can check under Media Properties) and are you working with proxies?
    • Media Storage: Are your Scratch Disks set to your Documents folder or the same as project, and is this the same as the Media drive?

    • Does this it also happen in a new project with a locally stored clips if you try a few sample clips in there?

When it does crash, are you getting a crash report box popup or do you mean you’re force quitting Premiere? If it’s the crash report, make sure to enter your email address and DM us that, as our engineers can look that report up. Let us know.

With freezing, we might like to request a Sample file as sometimes that can help understand what’s going on during a freeze. The next time that freeze occurs, can you do the following?

    1. Open Activity Monitor and identify the Premiere process (you can use search to filter for only Premiere)
    2. In Premiere, get it into the hanging/unresponsive state
    3. Switch back to Activity Monitor and right click on Premiere then choose > Create Sample
    4. Click Save, then save it as a text file somewhere.
    5. Then, you can DM me and either provide us the link/access to this file or I can send you a link to upload that file, whatever's easiest.

Just so you’re aware, there was some freezing issues we were investigating and created main posts about. This one here has a pinned comment with a few of the main posts that you may want to look over to see if you are using any kind of Accessibility or noticing issues in Properties panel, for example. See here:

Let us know if you believe you’re experiencing issues from that. One main workaround included downgrading to v26.0.2 and/or disabling accessibility related like Magnifier or Power Automate.

Sorry for any frustrations, and hope to help!

I’m using version 26.5.2, but these freezes and errors are really frustrating. Is the problem with macOS or on your end, or do you and Apple need to work together to figure out what’s causing it?

@rozigoGG Totally understandable. I can see in the screen recording it’s hitching up when you make those adjustments to the title and try playback.

Do you happen to have Ask Siri installed? This issue was found to be in macOS Golden Gate, and I didn’t see any right click menus in the recording but you should check for that. See post below:

Did installing Tahoe help at all?

As for the other issues with freezing on that other post, those are still being currently investigated. Some are having freezing issues specific to Properties Panel interactions, while others say got overall freezing from having had things like Magnifier or Power Automate from Accessibility settings on. Engineers are still looking into the cause of that.

Also, have you sent in any crash reports with your email, or can you take a Sample the next time it freezes up and perhaps an engineer will be able to look into that report to see what may be causing it. I can send you our private Dropbox upload link, if so.

Let us know, and sorry for the frustrations.
    Katie
