All clips in the timeline unlinks when using Q or W shortcuts. Modified Audio (Stereo to 2 channel Mono)

Multiple Mac devices, MacOS versions and multiple Premiere Pro versions, this issue has been persistent. My whole project gets unlinked while working with modified audio channels and it unlinks absolutely everything, not just the modified ones. Finally I decided to record a session and post it here in hopes of someone from adobe seeing this. I was using the Q ripple trim shortcut here in the video.

This is not a device, OS or Premiere version problem. Again, I’ve changed and updated many of those. This bug persists like nothing I’ve seen. I’ve posted this issue here before, I just had people asking me stuff.

 

In short: When I use stereo → 2 channel mono files in the project, the project starts randomly unlinking itself when I use the QW shortcuts. This also unlinks the other, unmodified clips as well.

One thing that I noticed is this only happens after the projects gets bigger. Not for the first few 8-10 hours of editing. But later. Which kinda makes it worse in a way.

    안녕하세요. R Neil의 멀티캠 제안은 확인했지만, 위에 말씀드렸듯이 저희 작업 과정에서 멀티캠 방식은 필요로 되지 않습니다. 

    저희의 작업과정에서는 머지클립 즉 병합 과정을 거쳐서 비디오와 오디오가 병합된 그 상태를 원본으로 유지하여 작업을 진행하고 있습니다.

    해당 작업은 프리미어 프로 23버전을 사용할때까진 문제가 없었던 방법이었습니다. 25,26버전을 업데이트하면서 위와 같이 링크가 해제되는 오류가 발생하여 문의를 드리는 것입니다. 그리고 샘플 영상과 작업한 프로젝트에서 보여드린 임시파일들은 “예시’여서 실제 작업에서는 하나의 클립으로 저렇게 나누고, 머지하고 그러지는 않는 것을 말씀드립니다.

     

    지금 이 오류를 해결해야하는데 있어서 포커스를 맞춰두셔야할 것은,

    병합 클립이라는 기능은 존재하는 기능이고, 해당 기능을 저와 같이 지금껏 사용해오고 앞으로도 필요로할 사람들이 있다는 것입니다.

    그렇다면, 기존 23버전에서는 발생하지 않았던 버그가 25,26에서는 발생하였고 따라서, 이 버그가 ‘발생되지 않도록’ 포커스를 두는 것이 중요하다고 생각합니다.

    그래서 그 포커스를 맞춤에 있어서 테스트를 하셔야할 것은, 이 오류를 발생시키는 ‘트리거’이고

    해당 ‘트리거’는 프로젝트 내 시퀀스 타임라인에서 ‘데이터가 있는 곳’에 ‘해당 데이터나 다른 데이터를 겹쳐 붙혀넣기’를 하는 것으로 파악됩니다.

    문제를 꼭 좀 해결해주셨으면 하며, 이 오류를 해결함에 있어 질문사항이나 필요로 하는 것이 있다면 언제든 말씀해주십쇼.

    Hi, I have experienced this so many time too.  Just happened again.  Spent 15 min relinking everything up to the 27 min mark in my cut.  Everything beyond this point in the timeline has remained as a linked selection.  

    And yes as noted above my project is getting bigger with more stills and archive coming in.

    ​@Philippa Byers Sorry to hear that! We’d like to investigate this further and were unable to recreate our side yet, so I’ll ask for some additional details below.

    • What is the exact Premiere version and build you’re using? 
    • Please specify Windows or macOS, along with the OS/chip type if Mac or if Windows are you win11/10 and what driver version/build?
      • GPU Driver (Windows only): Please let us know your video card driver version. We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.

    Screen Recording: If possible, include a recording of your screen showing the issue as that’s very helpful.

    For additional context:

    • Does it affect all projects or only some?
    • Does it affect new, empty projects?

    Importantly, would you be willing to provide a simplified project with a couple clips doing this as a sample? We can even provide a private Dropbox upload link for this. Let us know, and I’ll be happy to DM you that.

    • Premiere Pro: 25.6.4(Build 5) 26.3(Build 93)에서 경험했습니다. 
    • 운영체제: macOS Sonoma 14.8.5 
    • Mac 모델 및 칩: Mac Studio M1 Max
    • 프로젝트 파일과 자동 저장 파일은 컴퓨터의 로컬 저장장치에 있으며, 영상·음성 미디어만 서버에서 연결해 사용중에 있습니다.
    • 동일한 업무 방식으로 사용했던 프리미어 프로 23 버전에서는 이 현상을 경험하지 못했습니다.

     

    문제의 증상
    병합 클립(Merged Clips)을 사용한 시퀀스에서, 기존에 연결되어 함께 선택·이동되던 영상과 음성의 링크가 의도하지 않게 해제됩니다. 미디어 파일을 찾지 못하는 ‘오프라인’ 현상이 아니라, 타임라인에서 영상과 음성 사이의 연결이 풀리는 문제입니다.

    특히 시퀀스 앞부분부터 링크가 풀리고, 이후 저장본에서 그 범위가 더 넓어지는 사례가 있습니다.
    앞부분부터 풀리기 시작하는 순간부터 작업을 하기 위해 키를 누르면 누를때마다 앞부분부터 링크가 풀립니다.

     

    자동 저장본으로 확인한 진행 과정
    9월 18일 작업에서는 다음과 같이 확인했습니다.

    • 11:12 자동 저장본: 해당 앞부분의 링크가 유지되어 있습니다.
    • 11:27 자동 저장본: 앞쪽 3개 클립에서 링크 해제가 확인됩니다.
    • 13:38 및 13:54 자동 저장본: 링크가 해제된 범위가 더 넓어졌습니다.

     

    발생 조건
    복사·붙여넣기 후 링크가 풀리는 것을 확인한 사례가 있지만, 모든 사례가 이 동작 때문인지는 확정하지 못했습니다. 특정 편집 명령이나 저장 동작이 원인이라고 단정할 수 없는 상태입니다.

    한 발생 사례에서는 서버 볼륨이 마운트된 것처럼 보이는데 실제 네트워크 연결은 끊겨 있었고, 서버 폴더 표시도 비정상이었습니다. 다만 이것이 링크 해제와 관련 있는지는 확인되지 않았습니다.

    프로젝트별 발생 여부
    서로 다른 버전과 컴퓨터 프로젝트에서 반복적으로 경험했습니다. 다만 모든 프로젝트에 발생하는 것은 확인하지 못했습니다. 완전히 새로운 빈 프로젝트에 클립을 가져와 처음부터 작업해도 재현되는지는 아직 별도 검증하지 못했습니다.

     

    제가 의심하는 발생원인으로는,

     

    1. 프로젝트를 복제해서 이름 변경후 복제한 프로젝트 내부에서 시퀀스에 클립들을 복사 붙혀넣을때
    2. 타임라인 왼쪽 상단에 Linked Selection 키 On/OFF ? 상태에서 작업할때?
    3. 프리미어를 사용중인 각 다른 컴퓨터에서 서로의 컴퓨터에 네트워크 연결을 통해 접속했을때

    Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums and giving us those two helpful screen recordings about your issue with unlinking with Modified Audio Channels. My M3 Max Mac on Tahoe 26.6.2 with Premiere 26.5 has yet to recreate the issue, but there may be a step I'm missing. It could also be your additional note of it taking a few 8-10 hours of editing before it shows up.

    Would you be willing to provide a simplified project with a sample clip or two that’s definitely been doing this unlinking issue? I can even send you our Dropbox upload link to make that easier. Let me know.

    I’d like to try to confirm a few details though I did read you mentioning it happening over the course of a few years, many versions Premiere, different setups. So thinking about the very last time it did this to you, what computer/Premiere were you on? I believe I ran across what could be a similar issue, although yours involved modifying and some time passing before it happens.

    What type of Macs were used (and what macOS/chip type), what version & build of Premiere are you using, how’s your media stored (NAS/External)? We do often ask that info because we try to match the environment to recreate the issue.
