Attempting to add text to a clip and the program crashes immediately when clicking on viewer panel

i am working on a existing project and want to add a piece of text on the video. I am choosing the T icon to add the text. I click within the viewer and Premiere crashes.

    - What version of Premiere are you on?

    - What OS and version?

    - Does this happen on all projects or only this specific one?
    - Can you share a screen recording of what happens?
