Audio Dropout Issues still occuring during basic timeline playback

Premiere has been plagued with audio dropout issues since upgrading to 25.5 and still occur in 25.6 and the latest update 25.6.4.  I have been rolling back to 25.2.3 where the issue does not exist.

The problem that occurs - During playback on the timeline, any time the audio becomes slightly more involved (i.e. audio from more than one track at a time) the audio will just drop out one or more of the tracks, in the middle of playback.  It is seemingly random when it occurs.  It makes basic editing practically unusable.

I am working only with ProRes files and WAV files for audio.  Often the audio that is stacked is directly from the ProRes files.  There is nothing sophisticated happening, no plugins or any audio effects running on these audio clips.  Sometimes I will have a Multiband compressor on a specific track, that is about it.

To reiterate, the exact same projects will playback normally on 25.2.3.  Every version since has been plagued with this issue.  The issue is reproducable in any project that is opened.

I am running Premiere on a Mac Studio M3 Ultra, and the latest version of the Seqioa OS.

Hello @Dani_V.
I'm using an Audient ID14. I set the default output to "System Default", which lets Premiere Pro automatically switch from the Audient to the internal speakers when I'm not at my desk.

Thanks for the additional information @DMFilm. When the drop-outs happen, do you see the audio meter levels fall off and stop reading as well, or is there still activity there despite hearing no audio?

Would you be interested in sharing a sample project/files that the team can look at? I can send you a direct message if so.

@maximeb24899079, thanks for sharing the thread. Are you using any external audio devices on your end? What's your Default Output set to?

Thank you for responding, I have seen other threads about this issue so it is certainly not just me and has been going on for a while.  It happens whether listening through headphones or external speakers, though TBH I am on headphones like 90% of the time.

Both speakers and headphones run through an external audio device (UMC202HD 192k) so I should probably mention that.

The Default Input is set to "No Input".

Default Output is "System Default UMC202HD 192k"

1/O Buffer size is 2048

Media is stored on an external SSD.

Rolling back to 25.2.3 with the exact same settings and nothing changing, the program operates as intended with no audio dropouts.

Yes it's really annoying.
There's another thread about it here:

I recently did a clean install of my Macbook Pro to Sequoia. Fresh settings, same hardware and still the same issue with audio drop outs as before.

Hi @DMFilm

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums and sorry you've been experiencing issues. Does this happen regardless of how you are listening to your project (e.g. external speakers vs headphones)?

Under Settings > Audio Hardware, is the Default Input set to "No Input"? Where is your media stored?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani
