Audio dropout while monitoring a timeline

Hi everyone,

For a while now (last 2 updates at least) I've noticed that sometimes while monitoring a timeline, the audio drops out completely for 2 seconds, then comes back, so to be clear, press spacebar to play at normal speed, audio/video begins for 2 seconds, drops out for 2 seconds, then comes back and plays correctly.

This doesn't occur all the time, but I haven't been able to nail down a specific action that causes it.

I thought it may be an issues with the sound card, but it happens on my home PC as well.

Thanks,

Unfortunately this has been an issue for years at this point, I've noticed it since 2022 at least. Was recently made worse with that annoying error message you got spammed with and has now retreated back to just an every now and then issue.

Thanks for the information @Peter_Robins. Were you able to try out the preference changes to see if that can help and is your media on an external hard drive?

Thanks Dani,

  • Issue the audio drops out completely for 2 seconds, then comes back, so to be clear, press spacebar to play at normal speed, audio/video begins for 2 seconds, drops out for 2 seconds, then comes back and plays correctly.
  • Steps to reproduce  no specific identifiable action as yet. Seems to happen randomly.
  • Expected result  audio should play continuously.
  • Actual result  as per issue above, audio randamly drops out.
  • Screen recording – I will try, but it's hard to predict when it's going to occur.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version – V 25.2.3 (Build 4)
  • Operating system – Windows 11 pro
  • GPU driver version (Windows only) – Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Driver 32.0.15.7602
  • Video format  mp4 h.264 input files and output files.
  • Comparative information helps us understand more about when the issue occurs:
    • Does it affect all projects or only some projects? All projects
    • Does it affect new projects? Yes
    • When did the problem begin? about 2 months ago

Hi @Peter_Robins,

Thank you for reporting an issue. We need a few more details to try to help with the problem like hardware specs and Premiere Pro version you are on. Please see: How to Report a Problem.

Where is your media stored and what kind of files are you working with? A couple of things you could try is to go to Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Default Input to 'No Input'. You can also try increasing the I/O Buffer Size/Latency in small increments to see if there is improvement.

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani
