Audio dropping out completely when using USB audio interface

my audio is cutting out on playback specifically when using my usb audio interface. The audio skips a few times and then completely stops coming through my system. In Premier I still see the levels showing like normal on the audio meter though. I have a 2023 Macbook pro M2 with 32gb ram, running on Tahoe 26.3.1 and Premier Version 26.0.2 going into a Solid State Logic SSL12 USB audio interface. The hardware has been the same for a few years now, but I think maybe this started showing up when I updated to Premier 2026. I have tried doing all the reset options as well as lowering my I/O buffer rate and insuring the correct sample rate in the audio hardware settings.

    Hi @roams

Thanks for the detail here. The fact that audio meters still show levels while the audio cuts out suggests Premiere is still receiving the signal, but something is breaking the output path to the interface.

The SSL 12 is class-compliant and runs directly through macOS Core Audio with no driver, which is helpful to know. These points point more toward a macOS Tahoe interaction than a specific Premiere issue. macOS Tahoe had known USB audio issues at launch, and the behavior with USB audio devices changed in Tahoe, so it's worth ruling that out first.

    A few things to try:

    - Make sure the SSL 12 is plugged directly into the Mac and not through a hub, as Tahoe changed how USB audio devices behave through hubs
    - Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and make sure Premiere has microphone access enabled — Tahoe added stricter audio input permissions
    - Check if there is a Tahoe update

Please also let us know what exact version of macOS Tahoe you are on. Does the audio drop happen in other apps as well, or only in Premiere?

Sorry for the frustration. I hope we can help get this sorted.

ahh that is interesting! Thank You for that info, yeah the interface is going through my dell monitor that has a built in hub. so that is helpful to a degree, as I now run into the problem of the MB Pro having a limited amount of ports available for me to plug the audio interface directly in to :/ there is a OS update I can run so I will try that and also test plugging directly from the MB Pro to the audio interface. Thanks Rach! I appreciate the leads and will report back :)
