Audio issues with ASIO

I use a USB ported Rode NT1 & AI-1 setup. I do have it plugged into my more powerful usb port and have already checked that the mic is working perfectly fine in ever other app except Adobe. It will only recognize my mic after i added the Asio option for Audio hardware. But I noticed, if i click out of premier pro to go watch a youtube video, then com back. The mic and headphones no longer work, so I have to go into Audio Hardware, select a different device class, then re-select Asio and press OK, then it recognizes it again. However, I’ll be recording audio just fine, then mid way throw the audio randomly peaks, as if i had a bad cable connection. But I have already tested that, and indeed it is just Premier pro that I experience this in. Closing the app and re-opening fixes is temporarily, but eventually it does it again. I have not had this issue two weeks ago when i used the app so it seems to be a new issue.

    I have recently experienced very similar and equally frustrating  issues, which in the past, did not happen nearly as much.

    Historically, I have been able to edit a video file in premiere pro and tidy up the sound in audition,  but now, every time I  try to do this, audition  won't recognise the asio drivers and tells me that my interface (Rodecaster pro ii) is offline, even though it is active all the time in premiere pro.

    Now I know someone will instantly say that asio drivers will be grabbed by one app, but I have been able to do this procedure before, using premiere pro and audition side by side. I've also followed advice in all of the help videos about unchecking the box that releases the asio drivers etc.

    This is so tedious and I can't believe in this day and age, with all of the developments in apps & 'A.I. ' that a basic thing like an audio driver still causes a problem?!

    Btw, I also frequently find clicks fizzez and pops in the audio while trying to play and edit it, even though I've adjusted the buffer size. Curiously, this isn't an issue when I recently switched to Reaper, out of my frustration,  as I had an audio-book to complete, and audition just wasn't working with my RCPII.

    It's a real shame as I've been an Audition fan since tge early days, but this is seriously testing my loyalty and I may move on when my subscription renews.

    Hi @MFalken

    Thanks for reaching out. I can understand the frustration, especially when it was working fine two weeks ago.

    Just to flag — the issue with ASIO dropping when you switch to another app is actually expected behaviour. ASIO drivers don't share well with other applications, so when you switch to a browser, it grabs the audio device, and Premiere loses it. The random peaking mid-recording is a separate issue and warrants further investigation.

    Can you tell me what changed from two weeks ago?  A Premiere update, driver update, Windows update, etc?  We'll need a few more details to help with the issue. Please see: How do I report a Problem?  In the meantime, a few quick questions that would help narrow this down:

    * What version of Premiere are you on?

    * What version of Windows?

    * Is your ASIO driver up to date?

    * What is your ASIO buffer size set to in Audio Hardware preferences? Too small a buffer can cause the kind of random peaking you are describing.

    Sorry for the frustration, and thanks for reaching out. I hope we can help you soon.
