[Bug] Text selection highlight and Transform bounding box become invisible (Still clickable)

[System Specs]

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti (Latest Studio Driver)

  • RAM: 64GB

  • OS: Windows 11

  • Display Setup (3 Monitors Total): Main Monitor + Secondary Monitor (24-inch) + Tertiary Tablet Monitor (Xiaoxin Pad 12.7 via SuperDisplay app).

[Symptoms] While editing in Premiere Pro, the UI overlays in the Program Monitor randomly disappear.

  1. When selecting text, the blue highlight background does not show up.

  2. When an object/text is selected, the transform bounding box (scale/rotation handles) is completely invisible.

  3. The elements are still active and clickable. I can still blindly click the corners to scale or type to edit text, but I just can't see the UI guides.

  4. Important context: The Program Monitor is ALWAYS on the Main Monitor (directly connected to the GPU). The other two secondary monitors (including the SuperDisplay tablet) are only used for panels like Effect Controls or Timeline.

  5. Restarting Premiere Pro temporarily fixes the issue, but it keeps happening after a while.

[Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken (None worked)] To save time, here is the list of things I have already tried without success:

  • Checked that "Show Transform Controls" (wrench icon) is enabled.

  • Reset workspace layout (Alt+Shift+0) and switched panels.

  • Tweaked UI brightness in Preferences > Appearance to force redraw.

  • Cleared Media Cache.

  • Clean installed NVIDIA Studio Driver.

  • Disconnected SuperDisplay and toggled its hardware encoding settings.

  • Disabled "Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling" (HAGS) in Windows Settings and rebooted.

  • Toggled Renderer from CUDA to Software Only and back to CUDA.

  • Turned off "Background Application Max Frame Rate" in NVIDIA Control Panel.

It feels like a UI rendering/overlay conflict triggered by having a mixed multi-monitor setup (physical + virtual display driver), even though the Program Monitor never leaves the main GPU display. Does anyone have a workaround or know if this is a known bug with the latest Premiere / RTX 50-series?

Same issue here, and it is seriously affecting my daily work.

    System
    - Premiere Pro version: 26.5.2 (build 5) - Italian UI
    - Windows 11 Pro 10.0.26300
    - GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, renderer: Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)

    Problem
In the Program Monitor, the bounding box and transform handles of text layers are completely invisible. This happens both when selecting an existing text layer and while dragging a new paragraph text box with the Type tool: no outline is drawn at all. The handles are still active (I can resize the box blindly), but I cannot see what I am doing.

    Steps to reproduce
    1. Add a text layer to a sequence with the Type tool (click or drag in the Program Monitor).
    2. Switch to the Selection tool and click on the text in the Program Monitor.
    3. No bounding box or handles appear. Selecting the text layer in Effect Controls does not show them either.

    Already tried, without success
    - Transform overlay button in the Program Monitor enabled (highlighted, "Transform" checked)
    - Selecting the layer from Effect Controls
    - Double-clicking the text in the Program Monitor
    - Switching renderer between CUDA and OpenCL
    - Toggling "Show Rulers" on and off in the Program Monitor settings

This is a basic function for anyone working with titles and graphics, and the bug has been present across several 26.x releases. Please prioritize a fix and let us know if there is any official workaround in the meantime.

    Thank you.

This started happening to me a few months ago and I’m so sick of it.

I’m having the same issue. Restarting premiere pro fixes it for a moment but then same issue. I am currently on a new update for 26.3.2 thinking oh maybe I just needed an update but still same issue. I looked at old threads that are now closed for when this happened to older versions but none of those fixes are helping in the current version.

    Hi @dmgm4bjkoy
Thanks for all the details to help us look into what you are experiencing. Please let the team here know what version of Premiere this is happening in. And when did you first notice this start happening?
    Here to help.

The exact same thing is happening to me and it has been happening on the last two updates of Premiere (currently it is happening on latest version 26.2.2 (Build 3)). I need this to work and it’s been a nightmare over the past week.

PS : restarting the computer used to work until yesterday and now nothing works and I really need to use masks but I just cannot see them.
