Can't link stereo & mono audio tracks

I considered sending this as a feature request, but the inability to link mono and stereo audio tracks feels more like a bug than anything else. There seems to be no reason why I can’t link different types of audio tracks, but if I have a video track, a stereo track and a mono track, PPro refuses to let me link them, for no apparent reason.

Hi @hellopaul4
How are you trying to link the audio tracks? Are you attempting to merge or link separate audio stems? Any example videos or a screenshot will help. I'll check back in on Monday and see if there's any more info I can get from you. In the meantime, can you send the information that we have on our Report_a_Problem link?
Here to help.

Hi Ian,

The process is this:

The shoot was a series of interviews. The rushes are video with stereo audio from the camera's mic, plus a mono track from a lav mic.

I then create a new sequence (drag the video file from the project panel onto the New Sequence icon, so I then have video on V1 and stereo audio on V2.

I then drag the mono audio (from the lav mic) on to A2. I then shuffle it around to sync it up (the interviewee's sync clap).

I then select the video & stereo audio and do ctrl-L to unlink them. I then select the video, stereo and mono audio tracks, and press ctrl-L to link them ALL... But nothing happens. Premiere cannot link stereo and mono tracks, for no apparent reason.

I can presumably edit the stereo audio to be dual mono instead of stereo and it might sync, but this just seems an unnecessary step. I do not see any technical reason why it's not possible to sync up mono, stereo and video tracks - all that's presumably happening is that Premiere is keeping the timecodes synced; why should what those timecodes refer to (stereo, mono or video) be of any relevance?

Why aren’t you using the multicam process, which is the intended method for joining separate recorded sound to the video tracks?

What do you mean by “link” them?
