Cannot disable captions on export

Exporting a video with captions option disabled, still exports (burns) the captions. This occurs on both normal Premiere export and also via AME. Workaround is to disable the captions track prior exporting.

    This has been an issue for some users for various versions. Rarely have I been able to replicate it, but it was an actual bug at least once.

    I’ll note that there is a common false positive, that tricked me into believing I replicated it once upon a time. If you export a sidecar, and then export a “no burn in” version, the sidecar may be used by default, by some apps, such as VLC player. Test the burnin by importing back to PR.

    There are some differences in the settings, and I don’t know when they were added. In PR, with the Captions toggle on, there used to be 3 options in the dropdown caption export settings, “None, Sidecar, and Burnin.” Now, when the Captions toggle is on, there is no “None.” This is handled by the toggle being off (as Averdahl shows).

    However, in AME, there is now a third option checkbox “Export Captions” to the “Export Video, Export Audio.” But in the dropdown when Export Captions is on, there is still “None.” 

    In my tests just now, Win 11, PR 26.5.1, AME 26.5.0, all works as it should.

    Do you still have PR 25 installed? Does it work there?

    It was working as a charm on the previous versions. I’ve been using it numerous times since our productions rely heavily on subs. So we do export two versions, one with burned-in and one with a sidecar srt file. Now the only workaround is to go through the export process twice by disabling the sub track(s) from the sequence. Not that productive :)

    To clarify, are you using a Productions or is it a standard Premiere project?

    Hi ​@Jonathan Editor. I’m not sure what exact settings will help, but I’ve tried with H264, H265, in FHD, UHD, Hardware and Software encoding, high profile (4.2), 1 pass VBR @7Mbps (for the H264 part)

    ​@konstantinos_2360 Have you disabled Captions in the Export Settings? They are enabled by default to burn into video, so you must manually turn it off.
