Clicking and dragging clips does not work

When working in my timeline when I try to click and drag a clip to either trim or move it or adjust speed in time remapping it doesn’t work. Basically anything that requires a dragging motion does not work. I am working in 26.5.2 and this has been an ongoing issue but it’s only gotten worse.

@aayushnevatia May we ask some more details to try to better help troubleshoot?

    • Premiere Version: What is the exact Premiere version and build you’re using? How to find the exact version of Premiere you're using. Help > About Premiere or Premiere > About Premiere.
    • Please specify Windows or macOS, like Win11/10 or Mac and chip type like M3 max, along with the OS and driver version/build.

Screen Recording: If possible, include a recording of your screen showing the issue as that’s helpful.

These additional questions might help provide more context:

    • Do you have wired or wireless mouse?
      • Does it happen with a different input device such as a wired mouse versus the laptop trackpad, and does that same device drag normally in other apps or places?
    • Is it limited to the timeline, or do dragging operations fail elsewhere in Premiere too?
    • Does it reproduce in a new empty project with a sample clip loaded in, and are the affected tracks unlocked?
    • Do you happen to also be using a tablet, dock, remote desktop, mouse utility, or accessibility setting that might affect dragging?
      • What monitor setup and display scaling are active?

    Hope we can help!

    Hi @The Mitten Group Creative

Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums and giving us some details about your click/drag issue. In order to help better troubleshoot, let’s get a few more details. I see you’re using the latest Premiere v26.5.2, and mention it’s been an ongoing issue just in that version or prior versions? If prior ones, what version did you begin having this issue and is there anything that has changed alongside, like updates to OS/drivers or elsewise, since then?

    • Please specify Windows or macOS, along with the OS and driver version/build.
      • Mac Chip (Mac Only): Please let us know what M-series chip you have. If Intel please include GPU.
      • GPU Driver (Windows only): Please let us know your video card driver version. We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.
    • Do you have wired or wireless mouse?
      • Does it happen with a different input device such as a wired mouse versus the laptop trackpad, and does that same device drag normally in other apps or places?
    • Is it limited to the timeline, or do dragging operations fail elsewhere in Premiere too?
      • I see you mentioned click and drag on a clip for trimming or moving, or adjusting speed in time remapping.

A screen Recording: If possible, include a recording of your screen showing the issue as that’s helpful.

    Hope to help!
    Katie
