Create Captions from Transcript: Remove Punctuation feature should only remove end periods

There was two other posts requesting the feature to Remove Punctuation from captions

And thank-you for adding this feature!

I REALLY appreciate that you’re adding these QOL and ease of work features for those of us that work mostly in these screens (and hopefully there’ll be more of it as people caption their work for both communication AND helping people with hearing impairments).

For this feature though we only needed end periods removed OR be able to select which punctuation to remove and keep.

For instance, it has removed question marks that I’d like kept in, but there’s no option for this and I’m now doing the manual work adding them back in.

Upvoted. You make a very reasonable argument for a use case.

Workaround 1: Regex search for your undesired punctuation and replace with nothing:

Workaround 2, the new Assistant; I had not tried this, and it is exciting. I tested in Beta 27.1.0.27 on Win 11.
I have a simple, 2:30 sequence with captions. I added an ellipsis (...) in the middle of one caption, and a question mark in another.

With focus in that sequence, I gave the assistant this instruction: "Remove end periods from the captions in this sequence”.

It’s response:

I took the end periods off the captions in "Replace periods". Premiere doesn't let me edit caption text in place, so I built a new caption track instead of changing the original:

- **What changed:** 19 of the 35 captions ended with a period, and I removed it from each one. The text, line breaks and timing are otherwise the same. Periods in the middle of a caption stayed, like the "..." in "Surrounded by the beauty ... of the Blue Ridge Mountains".
- **New track:** The fixed captions are on a second subtitle track, matched to the original timing. I checked it: 35 captions, none ending in a period.
- **New file:** The fixed captions are saved as "Replace periods - no end periods.srt" in your project and in the Assistant folder on disk.
- **Original track:** I didn't touch it, so it still has the periods.

The new track uses default caption styling, so if the original captions had custom styling, it didn't carry over. Once you've checked the new track, you can delete or turn off the original one, or I can delete it for you.

It worked perfectly; no end periods. It told us it kept the 3 periods, and the question mark, and the many commas are all there. It used 19 credits.
