Dynamic link issue

In Premiere my AfterEffects compositions are not loading and I am not able to link them. I am not able to replace sections with an AfterEffects compostion.

Premiere and AfterEffects are 25.5

I am on a Macbook Pro 2023 - I just updated to Tahoe to see if that solves the issue and it persists.

I am not sure what changed, but it is working now, both the original file and creating new links. Thank you for your help

I've been having continous issues with dynamic link since updating to the latest versions of PR and AE. I create my edits in Premiere and then use dynamic link to add animations in After Effects.

The sequences convert to compositions without issue, I can edit in After Effects just fine. However, when I switch back over to Premiere, the linked sequences are no longer linked and appear offline. I'm able to relink the sequences, but ultimately have to relink nearly every time I switch apps or everytime I reopen the project.

Even after relinking the sequences several times, whenever I go to export the sequence from Premiere - I am given a warning that there is offline media in my timeline. I have to render and replace the dynamic link sequence in order to export the Premiere sequence, otherwise it exports with the "media offline" graphic.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue or does anyone have a solution? It's driving me mad.

Hi @roberta_2880, apologies. Have you tried clearing your cache?

Wanted to clarify, are you are seeing anything happening in the Progress Dashboard during 'Media Pending'? Instead of trying to relink while Pending, what if you offline the affected comp first (right-click > Make Offline) and then try to re-link once offline?

Do you see the same behavior if you import the After Effects comp into a brand new/clean Premiere Pro project?

I realize this is not and ideal workaround, but in the meantime you could export the file straight from AE and bring that back into your Premiere Pro project.

Would you be interested in sharing the affected Premiere Pro project and the AE file so we can take a look? I can message you if so.

Has this been abandoned? I need a fix

If I use a composition that I created in AfterEffects and put it in Premiere, it does not render. The AfterEffects parts have a yellow media pending sign. If I try to 'Replace with After Effects Composition' it freezes and I have to force quit.

In the file that I brought into my Premiere project, I used the typewriter effect to edit a small sentence being typed in, and wanted to bring that into my protoype in Premiere. I am able to open them in AfterEffects with no issue. In Premiere I am editing .mov files. Nothing complicated, just simple cuts.

@roberta_2880, where these comps made through 'Replace with After Effects Composition' in Premiere Pro, or where they started in After Effects and then imported into your Premiere Pro Project? What kind of source media/file type is being used in the comps?

If the AE comps aren't offline, are they appearing with the yellow 'Media Pending' sign then? Or are they visible but not playing through? A screen recording or even screenshot of the application could help understand a little better.

Do you see any processes happening in the Progress Dashboard in the top-right corner? Also, are you able to open the After Effects project where these comps are saved and are they loading there?

Thanks for the reply.

It is not offline or grayed out, it is currently freezing when I click "link media". It was letting me get to the link media screen and select the files earlier.

The files are all saved in one folder on my computer, no external hard drive.

Hi @roberta_2880

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums and sorry you've been experiencing issues. We need a few more details to help.

Do you see 'Media Pending' or 'Media Offline' for the AE comps? When you say you can't link them, is right-click > Link Media grayed out, or are you able to locate and link but the file is still not loading? Where are your files saved (internal drive, external hard drive, etc)?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani
