error during AAF

Hey everyone,

ive been trying to export an embbeded AAF file to my sound designer, however whenever i run the export process i keep getting this error message:
"Cannot embed audio source "File path" because an error occurred when writing essence data. Premiere ASL error number: -2147286767."

so far ive tried:
1) Render and Replace all the audio on the timeline

2) transcode each channel seperately into WAV

3) remove transitions and effects or render with audio clip effects

4) exporting with complete files

5) change the bit and sample to 16\24 and 48\96KHz

6) checking the tape names box

7) copying the info to a new timeline

😎 compying the info into a completely new Premiere project

but nothing seems to be working.

the only thing the works is when i export the AAF with Seperated files instead of Embedded.

the sound designer really preferes to work on an embedded file, and i see no reason for it not to work, but so far cant fix it.

can anyone please help?

thanks in advance!

Merci d'avance.

Hi, everyone! I have experienced the same problem. What @Bust3r reccomends worked for me. I was using the latest version of Premiere Pro, then I downgraded to the 25.0 version and I was able to export the AAF without any problem.

Ps.: it has no sense to change the workflow only for a bug that it should be fixed.

I’m having the same issue and have had it on anything past 25.0 so far.  The issue with downgrading and exporting that I have found is it doesn’t keep the clip timecode, which might not be an issue for some.  The only way I’ve been able to get it to work is to export a few tracks at a time embedded.  So if I have a sequence with say 10 tracks, I do 2 aaf’s with 5 channels each.  This varies though, and I can’t figure out what is causing it.  I also get errors that there are duplicate media id’s present as well that might be causing it.

Hey friend,

I was able to export a proper embedded AAF file by downgrading from the current (latest) version to 25.0 through the Creative Cloud. Id suggest you to try that, workd for me.

But im 100% in agreement with about the way Abobe is treating this in such a nonchalant way, as if this is no big deal, absolutely unacceptable and infuriating.

My mixer prefers embedded. It's disrupting to their workflow to have to switch. Embedded in general is also just easier as it's a single file to manage and not literally thousands for the type of sequence I'm dealing with. There is no listed version or information provided for when this built in feature broke, so I would be guessing as to which version to download. That being said, I tried to revert to a previous version on one of my systems, which somehow corrupted my Creative Cloud client, which I had to reinstall, and upon reinstalling, I can no longer access the "Other versions" page from the ellipsis on the Apps page. So you could understand why I'd be hesistant to try that on another machine without more comprehensive info that should be easily accessible by a team that does proper versioning and debugging.

There is no timeline for a fix becoming available.

The workaround Jamie described, choosing 'separate audio' instead of embedded, would unblock you today.

If you've had a better experience in previous Premiere Pro versions, you may wish to try downloading them (via Creative Cloud Desktop).

Any update on this? I am literally unable to get files to mix because of this. Absolutely unacceptable.

So there's just no solution to exporting an embedded AAF from Premiere at the moment? When did this bug occur? I've exported embedded AAFs from Premiere in the past... This is a huge issue for our post production workflow.

hi jamie!
thanks for your reply.

any idea when you guys think it'll be fixed?

i have not been able to identify a specific file that causes this. the timeline contains 21 audio channels overall and they take their info from the same source files - mostly.

whenever this error pops up, i recieve a message about 13 different files, and their names are essentially nonsensical, so i cant identify their source, for example:

"Cannot embed audio source "F:\Export\AAF Media\d7819d58-4f61-364a-da77-a1be00000083.wav" because an error occurred when writing essence data. Premiere ASL error number: -2147286767."

however, when i tried eliminating all channels except for one active, as suggested, it seems to be working (tried on 5 different channels). any particular meaning to this?

Hi @Bust3r - This is a known bug, and we’ve filed it with our team. We’ll keep you updated on its status. Apologies for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.

As a workaround, under Files: instead of embed audio choose "Separate Audio"
