Export Failure — Error Codes 1609629690 / 2147483646 (H.264 Export Memory Crash)

I’m experiencing consistent export failures when trying to render my project in H.264 format. The export process causes my system memory usage to spike up to 52 GB, after which all applications crash simultaneously. Immediately after, I receive an error log report and a low memory warning, prompting me to save my project. The export then fails with error code 1609629690 or 2147483646.

Steps to Reproduce:

-Open project in Premiere Pro.

-Go to File > Export > Media.

-Confirm export settings:

--Format: H.264

--Output location and filename: Set properly

-Click Export.

-System memory maxes out, all apps crash, and export fails with the above error codes.

System Info:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Version: 25.5 (installed 2 days ago)

  • Operating System: Windows 11 Version 25H2 (OS Build 26300.6899)

  • GPU Driver Version: NVIDIA 581.80

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D (recently upgraded from Intel i7-12700K)

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080

  • RAM: 64 GB DDR5

  • Motherboard: X870E AORUS PRO ICE

Som additional Notes:

The issue only occurs on this specific project.

The video is approximately 52 minutes long.

I was able to successfully export a 25-minute section of the same timeline earlier. I intended to export the project in two halves and stitch them together, but the second half repeatedly fails.

No third-party plugins are being used.

Only one transition is applied throughout the timeline: Additive Dissolve.

What ive tried:

-Restarted Premiere and the system.

-Monitored RAM and confirmed crash occurs when usage peaks around 52 GB.

-Attempted export in smaller sections — partial success on the first half only.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Chambray Ford -   Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.

Can you let us know what your integrated GPU (iGPU) driver version is?  You can find this information in device manager > display > iGPU > driver tab

To isolate if it is a GPU issue can you navigate to Device Manager > Displays and then disable your integrated (iGPU) or dedicated GPU (dGPU) one at a time

This error means that there is problem with an effect at your timecode.  What effects are you using.  You can fix this issue by putting your effects in the correct order usually by nesting and then add your effectPlease see this article:  Order of Effects

Sorry for the frustration.
